Edelbrock header install problem

I an installing Edelbrock headers on a 1992 camaro with a 305. Instructions say to disconnect steering column connector and slip tube down to steering box. I assume the column connector is the piece about 8" down the column from the firewall with a plastic protector around the lower part and some rubber on the bottom. I took out the bolt but nothing slips apart. I tapped on it a little but it did not want to move much. Am I in the right place.? How do I get it to slip down?

I have set of 'Brock headers on my car. I took a FEW bolts out of my steering colunm and nothing moved. Obviously I wasn't doing something right. Still with column in place, I managed to squeeze it down thru the top with much prodding. The passenger side was more work, had to remove all the AC stuff. Yeah, I scratched the collectors a bit, but none of said flaws can be seen from the engine bay.

Buena Suerte........

Got it apart with a lot of gentle tapping with a hammer.

My motor mounts are fine. Maybe they just made the cars smaller in 89..........

When I installed the headers on my 83 I just slipped the drivers side one in. I had to take off my valve cover, spark plugs, and move some hoses and stuff out of the way but I got the header on. Im not sure how to disconnect the connector. I tried to take it apart too but I couldnt get it to budge so I just left it alone before I messed something up lol

had to take the steering shaft out on my son's 91 RS when we put edelbrock TES headers on it. we had the valve cover off as we were installing some newly painted ones but still had to remove that piece of steering shaft. These headers were for a TPI engine but we put them on a TBI engine. Maybe some part number headers are slightly different. Of course we also installed a TPI cat. and a TPI flowmaster exhaust system so that will be ready for the TPI engine when we get around to it.
