Will my CA Smog TPI run rich without cat?
My IROC has 130k miles on motor. It started burning oil last month so I disconnected the cat and ran a "tubular" cat. It smells like it's rich now? Is this a coincidence? Or do I have other issues? I love the extra response on the lower end and the new raspy sound. Just curious.

Removing the cat will not effect how rich or lean your motor runs. It just smells different because there is no cat filtering the exhaust anymore.

I only ask, because on my motorcycle I was told I'd have to adjust the computer(Fuel injct.) when I change my pipe. Didn't know if our camaro computers would recognize a cat or lack there of? How much back presure did I lose when I removed the cat? Is this important. I probably should search backpressure, huh. Do you have a cat in NY. Are your smog regs like CA?

Changing the exhaust on a bike can mean you need to retune the engine because alot of bikes rely on exhaust backpressure to help the motor run properly. Change that, and the 'tune' of the engine changes because of the change in backpressure. Not so with your Camaro though.

Well.... its all good untill you have to pass smog. You may or may not be able to pass the sniffer without a cat, but you wouldn't pass a visual without it.

Yeah, I had a newer/used cat off my old 84 that I had flanged also. I just hope they don''t try to crawl underneath it to see the flanges. They didn't this year.
So the smell I get now is what a normally aspirated 1st and 2nd gen w/out smog would have? GN3 FBDY

We can show you how to run 12's and still pass CA smog with everything hooked up.
