I used a piece of cut up tire I had. And I have mine up by the y pipe and its much hotter up there, so you should be fine all the way in the back.

im gonna try these rubber hot pads i took from my mom lol. they dont melt in the 450 degree oven so they should be fine for the exhaust. they are thin and can be easily cut. i'll tell u guys if it works when i get a chance to put it on

.....Or, you could do it the right way by using this from BMR Fabrication....

This kit replaces the upper panhard rod support and relocates the panhard rod allowing enough room for up to dual 3" exhaust routing over the axle. Heavy duty tubular upper panhard rod support mounts in the original panhard rod location. New heavy duty brackets bolt to existing mounting holes and lower the panhard rod while maintaining the correct geometry. No welding or drilling required. Available standard in your color choice of red or black powdercoat, additional colors also available by special order.

haha $220 f that! the rubber hot pad worked fine
the pipe is just barely resting on the bar so i bet a cheaper tubular stock design would fix it if i wanted to do that.

It was just a suggestion. If you ever decide to go with a bigger/different routing style of exhaust, it might be an option for you. I am going to be using one seeing as how I am running the Mufflex 4 inch exhaust and there is absolutely no room back there at all. The damn exhaust barely fit going i so I'm sure that it will bang around back there.

excellant!
Has the padding made a significant difference in the sound?? That's great it's still there, but is it working very well??

I am in the blueprintting stage of planning a dual exit out the back for my car. Looks like I might need to buy that panhardbar bracket bar. Or whatever it is called. I wanna pass one pipe on each side. Even though my car is supposed to put out about 500 HP, I am gonna use 2.5" pipe back there, and 3" under the car when the gas is hotter. I think 2.5" will be possible to pass though there. It is gonna be a very strange and time consuming exhuast to make, but it will be worth it, and it will finally shut this damn mostner up.
As for rattling. You can allaways use good old stripps of wood as well as any high heat rubber. Granted more noise will get translated into the cabin, but egh, whatever. haha. I can't imagin how hard it would be for a noobie like me to make a full custom set of pipes and unly use hangars that aren't touching the car at all.... Pretty damn hard. I am just gonna pin the damn pipes up agains the floor, HARD. no ratling or anything. Just a loud interior.... for now.
