when i start my car it smokes until it is warm and at idle, at a light it will smoke when i stop, but it wont smoke all the time, i need to find out what the hell that **** is, it looks like a grill that has been cooked on a million times but has never been cleaned. i still have a smog pump, to let u know, if that could be causing the problem. i am rebuilding the engine this spring, i dont want to replace somthing that doesnt need to be replaced. and i do not have a catalytic con.

 

mine does the same thing in the winter. Do you leave it sit in the winter? becasue if so it's probably carbon build up and condensation coming out of the pipes.

 

you'll have to explain more about what exactly you see..

If it's black smoke, it's running too rich.

 

and if its white/bluish smoke- and when you rev it lots of black spatters come out- you could be burning oil..

 

I have a similar problem. On my car the tailpipes leave two black spots on the ground every morning. People tell me it's because the car is running rich.

 

Not necessarily, it may just be normal condensation dripping out of the exhaust. But it turns black when it mixes with the soot in the exhaust.
