Burning boots

What I got?
-Hooker Long Tubes
-Vortec Heads
-Accel SHORTIES
-MSD 8.5mm wires

The problem?
I've burned 2 spark plug wire boots already on the #7 cylinder. What can be done about this? I've tried everything! Heatshrink, header wrap, etc... There was about 1/8" between the plug boot and header. This gap was not big enough. Is their a better set of plugs I can buy? Again, what can be done?

PS: Taylor boot protectors do not fit!

I'm using the DEI boots: http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku
probably similar to the Taylors?

You can also buy a complete set of Jacobs ceramic boot wires if you have
the coin, and just use one on #7 and keep the rest of the set as spares?

(or get just the Jacobs boots, or a 4 or 6 cyl set)

advance and autozone sell boots as well. They will work fine. I went to my local speed shop and grabbed a set of 8 and no problems since.

He said boots don't fit, probably because of the larger boot size of the MSD wires..

Reminded me though, I had NAPA boots before, and I cut the hog ring out of them
and just drapped them down over the large boots.. Worked fine. The DEIs are
quite stiffer than the NAPA boots, and I had a tough time massaging them over
my Accel 300+ boots, which are smaller than the MSDs.

wow i need to learn to read heh sorry bout that. I think i know what you mean. When i first got my car it had msd wires on it and they were trashed. Looked like the guy had wire tied the wires to parts of the car to pull them away from the header. I just went out and bought taylor wires, custom cut kind. About 20$ cheaper and they fit awesome if they are done right. And the boot protectors fit on them.
