how would this sound/perform?

I need a completely new exhaust because it seems the ******* who owned my car decided to go offroading lol.

I want a custom dual exhaust and heres the setup I have been thinking about. Hooker competition shorty headers, all 3 in. pipe with 2 Flowmaster super 40's delta flow mufflers, and a side exit infront of the rear wheels.I want it to be loud but not sound like a farm truck, and be alot less resrictive than stock. I will take advice from anybody about what headers, or exhaust to use but I want to keep it at a reasonable price. Thanks,
Randy

more than likely it will sound pretty good.

however a true dual setup like that will have clearance problems. as long as your not too lowered, you should beable to pull off that setup. alot of ppl have run a similar setup with cased mufflers and dumped the exhaust right before the rear axle. all you have to do is similar setup, but run extra pipe to exit in front of the wheels

I have a 86 TA with the factory WS6 suspension. On the car right now I am running some long tube headers, with 2 1/2 true duals, through some glasspacks, and they go straight out right in front of the rear wheels. The pipe is tucked up to the underside of the car and yet I still have almost no clearance. Maybe 2", maybe not that much. I have pulled the exhaust off numerous times and scrap going over speed bumps, RR tracks, even just driving over bumps in the road. It was cool to have something kinda different, but trust me, it is a pain in the butt and you will just end up breaking something like I did. I would not go this route at all, I wish I didnt even go with my Heddman Long Tube headers. I would not go this route at all. Get a nice 3" exhaust to run the way the factory did and out the back.

a good 3 or 3.5 inch single with a highflowing muffler like a chambered tube/smooth tube, dynomax ultraflo or bullet, or single chamber flowmaster/spintech mufflers will handle most anything your gonna need. else go single 4 inch like the big mufflex systems

I know a guy with a 91 mustang LX and it has saleen suspension and is very low. He is running a similar setup that I want and has no problems. So I will still have problems even if I go with the shorty headers?

The problem with that is.......... Mustangs are set up for true duals, and 3rd gens f-bodies are not.

Exactly, the only way you're really gonna have clearance is if you run one pipe in the factory location, next to the drive shift and that torsion bar thingy. And you it's not possible to even run true duals all the way out to the back because of how the suspension has that panard bar or whatever it is that runs diagonal across the rear axel. And shorties are gonna help with the clearance help front, but the pipes running underneath the body, and especially underneath the transmission cross member is gonna kill ur clearance.

No there isnt. You wont be able to go over bumps, in a lot of driveways, you will just tear it up because there isnt many roads that are completely flat. Yes its a cool idea, but unless you are gonna drive strictly at a completely flat drag strip, I would say 100% do not do it.

i am wanting to do the same thing but with no cats or mufflers, i really dont see the BIG problem with it, i am even thinking of a nice lowering kit for some better handleing, iv had hondas and a 92 camaro that all had 1 1/2 inch clearance, the worst thing that happend was i got some scratches under the car and got some bad azz sparks!!!! but for the people that have tried this, what is the WORST that could happen???

You rip your exhaust off and get to stop, turn around, go out in the street and go get it. And hope it doesnt tear anyones car up, if it does, dont go back for it, lol. I have torn my off numerous times and have now given up and I am going with just a large pipe running the way the factory did. The best that you might be able to get away with is long tubes, running into a single pipe that runs next to the driveshaft like factory.

Dual exaust is able to be done you just have to have the proper tools to build it with and the kno-how. I can drive my car anywhere with no problems whatsoever. Good Luck!
