Which mufflers for GMMG?

I am going to be building my own exhaust modeled after the GMMG system. I have heard people have done this successfully, ive got a lot of free time and im sick of my flowmaster so i though id do it. I was just wondering which mufflers would work best for it. I was originally thinking dynomax bullets but i wasnt sure if they might be a little too wide since all the pictures ive seen of the GMMG the mufflers look skinnier, this is just a guess theres a good chance i sound like an idiot but ive never actually held a bullet so i cant be sure.

Im just wondering if anyone who has done this before has some tips or knows what mufflers would be best to use.

i wasnt trying to turn it into one i was just asking why everyone lately seems to hate them...

but back to topic. building your own gmmg exhaust is going to be pretty pricey. and its not going to help too much over a traditional catback... idk about you but it seems like a lot of work, time, and money into something that isnt going to do too much. if you are tired of the sound why dont you just get a different muffler and keep all the flowmaster piping?

if you dont like the tone it would be cost effective to replace your muffler rather than your entire exhaust.

Its not just that i want to change the sound its that i want to build something myself, more of a self-accomplishment thing. Also i wouldnt be building the exact GMMG just similar. Im planning on useing the same I-pipe and splitting it at the axle to do it. My family friends own a bus company so i have use of their garage and can weld what i need.

because they are the worst performing catback available on the market for ANY car. there was a thread a couple years ago in the LS1 section of cz28.com that compared a few of the available catbacks for 3rd and 4th gens based on flow in cfm. the flowmaster catback flowed over 100cfm LESS than the stock 4th gen z28 (note: NOT the upgraded ss or ws6 or firehawk catback, just the plain jane z28 one). its because of the baffling they use to create the sound. it completely kills the flow potential of the muffler. if i were after sound and performance and only liked the flowmaster catback, i would get it and then run a cutout before the muffler so i would get the best gains i could from it.

You need the classic style chambered mufflers, searches on eBay should bring up a couple of hits up to 2 1/2in ID, and the guy that's selling them is an IN local. Classic Chambered Exhaust Inc. - Home Page sells them up to 3in ID, you'll have to email them about pricing and sales. I am doing the same thing at the moment and going with true duals and a pair of 2 1/2in chambered mufflers. I believe the Dynomax Bullets are built on a similar design to these but have glass packing inside which will change the sound. PS these mufflers sound WICKED I can't wait to get my setup together.

actually, if you have the $$$ for it, do the chambered exhaust, and put it in yourself.

Does anyone know if they sound test when you get your car inspected and if so do you think a system like this would be too loud. I think it wouldnt be just because i have a 305 but i wasnt sure they can fail you for your car being too loud.
