Coated Pacesetter 1336 install ( PART 1 )
First of all, no pics yet. But if you go to their site you get an idea what they look like.
2nd, I paid $298 for uncoated ones. And they came painted black but I didn't want another project while I tore apart the engine so I took them back and exchanged them for Jet-Hot coated ones for $120 more.
I'll follow everyone else's lead in write ups. So here we go:
Company Pacesetter, friendly and local. Located in Phx, Az. No problem dealing with them.
Quality: I'd say 9 out of 10 so far. The AIR tubes potrude down about 1/4 to 1/3 of an inch, and thanks to the meaty flange, they were to far back to cut out with a grinder. But oh well. I'm sure people could do it, but I was rushed. The welds are nice and thick. And the coating is very nice as well. Jet Hot is also a local company, or at least has a subsidiary in Tempe, AZ. People seem to bash them on here for no reason. The coating is even and gives it a nice shine, not like chrome or anything but smooth.
Packaging: With the painted headers, each part of the headers (4 parts) came in a big thick plastic sheet that wraps around and gets wadded into the header. I think it's fine, however the painted ones were put in almost right away as some paint was stuck to the plastic. The coated headers were wrapped the same but got padding so as not to let them ding against eachother. The bolts and everything else came in it's own box, with all the bolts and nuts and washers in 1 bag, the ball flange in a wrapping and all the hoses and everything else in the box as well. Nice bod with a colored Pacesetter symbol on it. Looks nice, but it's a box and will be thrown away anyway.
Fitment: There was no wrestling getting these things on. The engine bay is very cramped on the driver side, through no fault of Pacesetter. I installed the headers loosely first, installed the pipe to the cat 2nd; again loosely. And the extension pipe from the driver header last. Everything fit and cleared all fuel lines and everything. Flanges were easy to reach to, and tightened fine. The 1336 headers are for Tbi cars and single cat tpi cars which mine is. So if I were to keep my stock cat it would clamp right up which I was fine with. I'm sure others would have a 3" catback by now anyway, but I don't. So fitment is a 10 from my experience so far.
**I did not use the bolts simply because there is no clearance for wratchet extensions, let alone a big cumbersome ratchet. So I got some short header bolts with 3/8 Allen wrench provisions. These are a miracle and saved me some room. I did use 3 of the bolts provided as there was sometimes no leverage for the allen wrench. So I used a 10mm wrench and tightened them down between the AIR pipe and header flange. Worked like a charm. I also got Fel-Pro header gaskets as they are the best.**
Part 2 of my review will be after I get the rest of the motor put back together and feel and hear the difference.
So far I am really happy with them. I was scared at first from previous header install nightmares and what people say about some header companies, but this is a breeze so far.
