smog delete pully install problem??

well i pulled out the smog pump, no real problem there. I ordered the pully from gmpartsdirect.com # 10186167. on the pully it says top with an arrow pointing up, so i assume that means install it that way. it fits however there is quit a bit of free space in the accessory bracket to the right of the new pully. Is this correct?? because everyone says it appears factory after the install of the pully, but there is a space there. i'm not complaining just wondering if everything is ok and this is how everyone's looks. I tried looking for pics on here of others installs but couldn't find any that helped me.

It only goes on one way, the pully "wheel" part obviously faces forward...just try to line up the holes...if it absolutely won't fit, then maybe they gave you the A/C delete pully. BTW, it might have been better to poat this in the Tech/General section, but I can see why you thought it should be under exhaust.

yeah sorry for posting in exhaust i wasn't sure where to put it and it seemed to fit the best here but i guess it should have went in tech. the thing is that it fits in the accessory bracket fine bolts up no problems. however there's about a two or three inch gap roughly in the bracket, from the edge of the new pulley to the inside of the bracket. hope i'm explaining it well enough?? sorry if i'm not. i'm just wondering if everyone has this or if something's wrong??

You could just get a different belt and run it the way shown in the tech articles without the pulley. Thats what I did and I have no Problems. Just another option.

smog delete

While on the topic. I've been thinking about taking my pump out of my 88 305 tbi, but have heard mixed things about it. Is there anything special I need to do other than just take out the pump and put a pulley in there?

I did it a month ago (same car), there is absolutly no need for a delete pulley. Simply put a smaller belt on (my belt I had on there actually fits perfectly with no squeaking!I think my mechanic jammed a smaller belt on...). Just make sure your remove the correct lines and plug the correct lines as shown in the guide. It looks hard but is quite easy!
