just installed Hedman Headers

just installed Hedman Headers

ok, after having 3 days worth of problems with the rear bolt on the passenger side manifold, i finally have my headers in and only my exhaust to go. i ran into another problem, i noticed that i broke my oil pressure sensor/sender (whichever it is) so i bought another one. i went to put it in, and noticed that my header is in the way, and no way of getting around it. even if i pulled the header off, put the oil sensor in and put the header back on, it would still be in the way. do i really need an oil pressure sensor? if i don't have one in, will oil shoot out? should i put something in the hole to stop any kind of drainage? im lost as to what to do. any input is very much appreciated.

I don't think thats the oil pressure sensor that goes in the side of the head. it's the coolant temp. sensor, and you'll want one of those.

Cruzn: Oil pressure sender is down by the oil filter or up by the dizzy, the temp sender is up on the head. I dont see how one could break off the coolant sender without noticing and not having enough room to change it as its in the wide open space between the primarys.

Now you may have to have it if your EFI because it also runs a relay for the electric fuel pump.


Now im trying to figure out what you have done here...

Are those long tube headers? How the heck are your primarys/collectors hitting when my hedman LT's have lots of room in that general area?!?

You can pick up a 90* fitting to point the sending unit in another direction if that would be helpful.

yeah, things have been weird putting these headers in, my friend on here 1990GTA had to do some shaving to get the driver side header in, but mine just slipped in from the top without undoing motor mounts. the passenger side though, i had to take EVERYTHING off that was even close to being in the way. the oil sender unit is about halfway down the driver side header. i bought a new one for like 40 dollars here in florida and i go to put it in, and a flippin tube is in the way! how should i go as to getting it in. that 90* fitting, does it just go where the oil pressure sender goes and the unit just plugs into it?

The 90* will have a male NPT on one side and a female NPT on the other. It screws into the hole in the block and when its all said and done the female thread will be pointing perpendicular (sp?) to the block rather than having the sending unit sticking straight out of the block.


Something like the attatched, you can also get them fairly long if you have tomove the sender off to one side a ways.
