awful l03 exhuast
well when i did my gas tank i discovered that my exhuast pipe going from the cat to the muffler has a crack in it. i was going to replace it with a new pipe and mufler. i found out that the car has a 2-1/4" exhuast. that is horrible, not only does that cause restrictions and lower the power output, but im sure it also has a negative impact on my fuel millage. anyways, i dont really have the money right now the replace the entire catback system so i was considering using a new 2-1/4" pipe with a flowmaster muffler. i figured i would at least replace my muffler with a better flowing unit. i could not find a flowmaster muffler with 2-1/4" inlet dual 2-1/4" outlets. i bought a flowmaster 2-1/2 inlet dual 2-1/2 outlets from pepboys. i also bought exhuast shims to shim it from 2-1/4". well i guess exhuast shims dont work very well. they didnt fit. they arent even perfectly round. i was not happy. i returned the mufler and pipe. i put the stock equipment back on the car. for now i will live with the lousy system. next spring im going to gut the entire system and start fresh. i want headers, high flow cat, flowmaster muffler. i dont have the money right now, im taking a road trip with the third gen
. taking a trip from buffalo,ny area to dayton ohio for the airshow and to visit the US air force muesum. a third gen road trip, that makes it worth it even more. i also am going to have to worry about getting my crappy corsica ready for winter, wont drive that third gen in the corrisive winters. i wish i didnt have to waste my money on crap to drive in the winter. someday im going to move down south so i dont have to park my good car in the winter anymore. so does anyone have any idea what i should think about saving up for as far as exhuast goes? i would like to spend around 6 or 700 bucks. im looking at keeping my 305 but i would like a little more power. i also need to maintain fuel economy. at $3/gal gas isnt and will never be cheap again
p.s. my stepfather's L69 z28 had 3" exhuast thats really what im looking for

Well first you should really use paragraphs to help the readers from not going blind with your writing
Second, I had a somewhat similar problem when i cut open my muffler to take out a pipe and realized that my exhaust was 2 1/4. My muffler was shot, and I could not find a replacement anywhere after checking summit AND jegs. I did not want to buy an OEM muffler because then I just basically wasted XX dollars so I returned the original muffler I bought and purchased a dynomax superturbo 2 1/2 catback that fits right into the cat.
It was about 170$ back then and it has served me well so far, but I wish I saved up more and bought a 3'inch instead.

Hooker 2055's, cat(catco 9118), and a 3" catback of your choice.
2055's are 390(this is off the top of my head), catbacks range from 280-800 so it matters what catback you'll get to meet your budget.
Please don't cheap out on headers though.

to get you by for now and save some money keep a look out in the junk yards for a car with a wide mouth cat....like my 84 with a H.O.305.......it came stock with 3in. pipe from the cat back.......I agree about not cheaping out on the headers stay away from flowtecks and the summit brand headers they are small tubes and cheap in price and quality.......
Good luck,
Mike
