02 simulators

when i brought up taking my cat out in the past, i had some folks discourage it because it makes the car too loud or something and that my L03 cam is too weak for it to sound good. well, even if i went against that and took it out anyways, i would need an o2 simulator to keep the engine light off. ive seen them for 93-02's but not for 82-92's. anybody know of a place i could find them?

What makes you think you need an o2 simulator?

If you are just replacing the cat with a straight pipe(I'll vote this as a bad idea as well, but it's your car), then I don't see the need. The o2 sensor is in the driver's exhaust manifold.

Do you have any reason to pull the cat converter??
Other than a federal CRIME(yes punishable by JAIL read it JAIL TIME), it will smell bad, smoke worse, deteriorate the enviroment that I, and others, must share with you. You will also be adding to the 'white-trash' image our vehicles have gotten over the years because of mods like that.

If its clogged, then removing it will probably help your milage...but why don't you actually give your car a little respect and IMPROVE it, instead of just ripping stuff off cause it's cheap and/or "cool".

IF clogged, aftermarket hi-flo cats cost bout 100 dollars, you will get a performance boost, I will not hate you, and you will be much happier with yourself.

Can't afford 100 dollars for a part, sell those pricy wheels.

O2 sims are for cars with O2's after the cat[s]. Thirdgens only have one in the drivers side manifold. Gutting the cat will have no effect on your O2.

i thought that all u need to do is ground out the o2 sensor's wire with the right Ohm resistor so that it gives the computer the desired voltage. this came from a friend with a 1st gen eclipse tho, so who knows haha.

my bad my bad, you dont have to explode in my face pizza _guy. first of all i can afford a 100buck cat, second of all, im kinda on that rat rod scene and we sometimes have the belief that if something really doesnt do much of anything, why have it??? you live in kansas, maybe its lllegal there, i live in southern GA, it aint here. it would not smell because it would be welded nicely with no leaks, and as far as that smog bull goes, who cares? deteriorate the environment......hahahha, seriously, come on. So, your basically calling yourself white trash? just because a car doesnt have a cat in it, its white trash? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA So my 4K paint and body work is white trash huh? the only reason our cars had a rep for being owned by white trash is because of there affordability, but remember, the mustang is equally if not more trashy that camaros ever were. white trash would just do it and not try to educate themselves and ask questions on a board unlike I have. my suggestion TO YOU pizza_BOY is that if you cant answer a question without criticizing someone because your scared of the mustang/camaro trash theory that doesnt really exist anymore (thats right, not anymore, I live in southern GA, i would KNOW) then go buy a damn corvette.

Believe it or not, some people actually don't mind keeping pollution levels to a minimum. The air is polluted enough as is.

How many times do you see top fuel cars and NASCARs on the street, sitting at a stoplight burning fuel? Or getting driven for only a few miles at a time, at low RPMs without almost no time to warm up?

The point I was trying to make is that a high-flow cat is a good way to retain HP without contributing to pollution. If you can't see past these facts, then you're just being stubborn to the truth. You can do whatever you want with your car, but I think your comment about nobody really caring about the enviroment was a little out of line. I'm no tree hugger, but I see no point in needlessly polluting the enviroment.

i think this was covered, but just for clarification O2 simms are only needed in cars with after cat O2 sensors, which are basically OBD2 cars. My '97 needed them when I ditched the cats.

If you remove your cat the O2 should be ok as I think it was stated befor it is in the manifold......,but if for some reason it's in the cat then I'd weld in an O2 sensor bung and be done with it.........

urbanhunter44 look out I see the Dominos guy with a cop looking and pointing at your car.......LMAO

Actually, Domino's is the only chain around here I haven't worked for.
Yes, I get assinine when the rest of us are trying to make a difference and someone thinks what they do doesn't matter.
No, I can get away with removing my cat here in KS, but frankly, I don't want my state to end up with the haze and acid rain in CA.

Just for your information, there are rivers in China with small towns beside them. There called 'cancer towns', because the cancer rate is 3 times in those polluted towns versus the rest of the world. More and more people are dying needlessly painful deaths because China thinks what they do doesn't matter.

backup. i understand this is a pretty open board when it comes down to it, BUT: when I posted on a cat delete i did not ask about someones opinion on the environment. in a difference of opinios, there is no one right party, But I am right in that i asked about my cat, not white trash or the environment, and i shouldnt have folks trying to force or convince me about it. this is a tech board, not a CNN "lets talk about cancer in china" board. I have respect for everyones opinion, but it should not be persuaded or taught to me. this whole thread has exploded. i really only wanted to learn a little about the o2 sensors in my car and how to work around them if I wanted to.

He has a point.

I hollowed out my cat because it broke loose and started to clog up real bad on my 91RS. If your car is tuned properly, as most people on this board is already, you shouldn't be putting out too much NOx or the like, IF you know what your doing. As for me and my gutted out cat because I am "white trash"

Of course IMHO.

My cat just exploded cause I got gas in in due to having the distributor in 180 degrees off and cranking the car. As soon as I can get to summit I'll be putting a 3 incher back in.

Your car has one O2 and it needs to remain in place. It provides the necessary feedback to the engine so that it can make fueling corrections. It is the life of any closed loop FI system and must remian. The O2 is located up stream of the cat and removing the cat alone will have no effect. As stated rear O2's are found on newer cars and provide feedback to the ECM that the cats are working properly (monitor temp and not A/F ratio).

Cliff notes.

1. Remove your cat (not recomended for the reasons stated by other members)
2. Leave stock O2 alone and do not remove or replace it with a simulator.

I know of many SBC Gen I, II and III cars out there and around without/gutted cat. cons. that pass emissions just fine.

Dont be mad at the tested, but the testers for not having strict enough emissions. Alittle tuning can solve alot of things for that matter.
