slp exhaust ?
slp exhaust ?
whats going on guys, im new and just bought a 89 Iroc w/35000mi 5.7 auto in medium orange. the car is cherry with not a dent on it, ill post pics when its not raining out. but heres my question. the car has headers with a 3inch exhaust all the way to the 80 series flowmaster with duel outlets. but i love the sound of slp loudmouth. heres the plan
1. remove highflow cat and install a loudmouth muffler(the original loudmouth not the #2) in its place.
2. remove the 80series muffler and install a modified Y-pipe( what i mean buy modified is just a little shorter so it fits in place of muffler) that way i can keep my duel exhaust look of one pipe on each side of the rear, then just weld up. what do you guys think, will it work. the reason why im doing this over buying the slp kit is b/c they only sell the duel outlets on just the left side of the car.
heres everything done to the car
shorty headers, 3in exhaust, intake, throttle body, upper and lower intake w/runners, shift kit, plugs and wires, and possible chip i dont know for sure b/c the owner has died and i cant find the reicpt for a chip but it runs to smooth to not have one. if it doesnt have one is it woth the money?
thankyou for your time and patients

first off the first loudmouth is NOT a muffler, its a resonator, LM2 is a muffler....second slp makes a kit that exits on driver and passenger sides HERE, i've never seen an SLP kit for a f-body exit on one side.... slp doesnt make a kit for any 3rdgen so a modified 4th gen would work fine... it only requires a few brackets to be changed....
so it would go... shorties, y-pipe, hi flow cat, slp catback, exit both sides with chrome tips.... with a few simple mod's it will be fine...CMIIW

ya the loudmouth 1 is a resinator LM2 is a muffler i have LM1 on my car and i love it with headers and cam, although its cheaper of you have a good muffler shop to buy the resonator seperatly from slponline.com and have them do it, i got my muffler and installed it all for 250$ with the exact same designe as the catback where it brakes into the Y alittle after the axel, and thats 3inches to the TIP where the catback breakes into 2.5 after the Y but make sure you have a good muffler. if not then the catback is very easy to adapt.
SLP made a 3rd gen cat back for years that was a dual out on drivers side. It was stainless and they just recently fazed them out over the last 6 months. They even had a sound clip. I have seen a few here and there on ebay but they are not common. I still have the catalog that has them in it from a few yrs back. Fourth gen shizzy will work A o.k. though.

It was a catback and it was originally made before the loudmouth products came out. The cat back looks like the catback that SLP put on it's 96 SS camaro's that were drivers side exit only. The price was 349.95 waaaay back when but when I was thinking of buying one in the spring they were charging 479.95 on SLP's site. Although stainless, I was not that crazy bout it.

slp
i have the slp catback everyone is talking about that is or was made for thirdgens that the firehawks had. It sounds really deep but not loud like a flowmaster sounds like a old school carb 350. My only complaints with it is the dual outlet on the driver side looks hideous and it could be a tad bit louder. the catback for the thirdgens is called powerflo by the way and yearone sells them. I have the whole setup cost about 1300 for the headers to the tips.

I had the SLP "2 on the left" exhaust on my old Formula along with SLP 1 3/4 headers, custom made y-pipe. It was very deep and not too loud but loude enough to get me a "exhaust noise" ticket in IL. I actually loved the way it sounds. I even had that exhaust on my '96 Z28 too. Sounded great also.
I have heard Loudmouths on many cars and think it sounds like TOTAL crap and is way too loud. Go with Borla if you want it to sound loud and have outlets on both sides.
