cat removal
cat removal
I am new here and i'm sure this is a old subject because i have been searching several pages to find my answer.
I have a 82 ta and the converter has a couple big holes in it and since i don't have to wory about emmision testing i was thinking of replacing it with a test pipe.
now the question, where can i get a test pipe ?
Do i just cut the cat off and measure a pipe lenght and have a muffler shop make me one the right lenght and bent shape ?
it sure seems to put off alot of heat around that side of the car now.

I just did this on my 90 Camaro and I'm no where near the experience level of a dedicated exhaust shop. I unbolted the ball and socket type flange and cut the cat off using a cutting torch. I had some spare exhaust tubing I welded to take the place of the cat and made a splicing joint where i cut off the cat. Just used some tubing slightly bigger than the old, slid it over and welded it up with a 120 amp Arc welder. Works just fine.
