Welding on ceramic coating

I have a chance to pick up a set of headers and a y-pipe that are ceramic coated. The only problem is that the y-pipe was cut in two places and I want to know if welding them back together would harm the coating. I've never personally seen the coating up close, so should the weld areas be grinded or preped before welding?

Thanks Toby

The coating will have to be removed before welding.

Just on the affected areas, right? The rest should be alright? It shouldn't cause the rest of the coating to crack should it?

Can I just make the two girth welds after the coating in that area is grinded back a half inch or so and be done with it or is it not worth it.

Just in the areas you're going to weld should be fine.

K, thanks! A 4" grinder should do for removal right?
