Dual Exhaust

Hi,

I have seen many pics here with dual exhaust running straight to mufflers and not many using the x pipe, would someone explain the benefit of the x pipe versus running right to the mufflers. I know of a setup (no pics) of single exhaust to dual tips, no headers, using a dynomax bullet muffler on a six speed 4th gen thats sounds awesome and super load but quiet at idle, all 3 inch pipe. So for those who have 305ci and want the performance and sound but don't want dual setup just fab a nice 2.5 inch mandrel system with dynomax bullet muffler and it will be a screamer.

Not sure what the point of this thread is, but I think you just wanted to know what an X-pipe is for...

An X-does the same thing as an H. It just equalizes pressure in the pipes, and quiets it down a bit. Since both pipes are "shared" by the motor, it can breath better. Generally making a bit more power.

As for what you said about the 305s and stuff... I kinda lost you.

You just saying that you can make a dual setup out of pipes and bullets?

No offence but...duh.

im kinda in she same boat with the other dude.. point? but i think you want to do a dual setup, well on these cars it REALLY hard to do that, i really want to do this myself, i think its better, but its totally personal. i have been looking into it more lately and i dont think there is any room for an x pipe. i dont know to much about h and x pipes, but i know that x is better. now what i have been thinking is off my custom headers, im going to run an x pipe right away where my stock cats were.. then im going to forget about the cats because tehy are much mroe expensive and in canada you dont need them. then im going to try and run dual 2.5 inch exhaust back to a modified corvette setup, where i use 2 resonators, adn then 2 pipes out teh back, i dont know if tis posible but im going to try.

yeah thats possible. I made dual dumps out back in about 1.5 days. And I have no auto training at all. And I welded up all my own pipes and stuff.

Duals really isn't needed just aobut ever. I have seen guys running 650-700 HP through a singe 4" with no loss in power, when compared to true duals. The main thig to remember is WHY you are doing it. If you are looking for flow, stay single and go with big pipe.

If you wanna be able to tell your freinds you have true duals, but it hangs low, cost a lot and was a pain in the *** to make, thats cool too.

I had a good stock style set up before, then I installed my 385 and am pushing 500HP now. I still don't need true duals. Infact the setup I made is just too damn loud now and I have to start from scratch again, and make a more stock type setup.

Good luck with whatever you do. later

Heres a 3 inch dual setup with X-pipe and cutouts. I built this exaust myself.
