Trying to find the best set up for my loud car. I think I got it.

OK, well I have been trying to figure out what to do about my loud exhaust for quiet some time now. I have another thread here all about it.

The high price route, is just too high. Around a grand for the mufflex parts.
This just seems to damn high.

On the other hand, I would like to buy something that is made, so I don't have to do all the work myself again.

I have decided that true duals is just a waste of space, weight and a PITA.

SO with that said. Here is my final idea.

Cough up the $ to get a mufflex Y-pipe. (that was I have a good flange, and now only 1 tube to deal with, instead of 2). I will have to moddify it, as well as my spohn x-member so it will mount. This is no problem for me. Then off the 4" opening, get a ball flange from summit, weld it on. Then buy some 4" pipe and go over the axle and into a spintech muffler with a singe in and a single out and a hidden tip. They sell their cat-back for $577. I am pretty damn possitive I can build it for 1/2 that. Anyways, tell me what you think.

And as a last question. For those who have done it... Is it hard to build an over the axle pipe? Is it just a 45-up, some straight, and 90-over the hump, then back down, then another 90 to the side to enter the muffler? (generally)

Thanks for any help.

I went on the Spintech sight but could not find the 4" offset/offset muffler?

Have you seen it on there? I have a Mufflex 4" with the Flowmaster and would like to change the muffler. I do not care for the part throttle light acceleration sound. On the other hand, full throttle at 6500 sounds friggin bad a$$!

Its a 60* up. According to a guy on this forum that built his own 4". I'll try to find the thread.

I'm in a somewhat similar situation. Your motor is alot crazier than mine, but seems like we both want to make it as quiet as possible. In my opinion the best way to accomplish this is to use an electric cutout in conjunction with stock exhaust parts. I consider it the best way because it leaves you with the option of controlling the sound. So the general idea is to have the best flowing loudest everything before the point of the cutcout. Then behind the cutout you step it down to OEM sized smaller diameter tubing, put the OEM cat in place, OEM pipes all the way to the back and OEM exhaust with no tips. When you want performance you open the cutout, and when you want quiet you close it. This might not match up with what you're looking for but I figgured I'd toss the idea out there.

CrazyHawaiian: That is funny that you suggested that. I acctually had a "stock" style set up with a cut out a while back. But then decided that I just didn't like the cut out anymore. The rest of my pipes where like 2 1/4 or 2.5" or something. I had the dual cat set up, but I cut them out and installed pipes instead. Then I added the cutout after the Y, and tried to have a normal exhaust. I built it before I had bought my motor. Then after haveing a few guys look at it, it became clear that I was insane and had no idea hwat I was doing. If I had made the pipes all NEW 2.5" stuff then maybe, but that plan just didn't work well. Plus where I installed the elctric cut out, it was hard to get it installed and also stuff the elcronic part under there without it hanging down. I just kept feeling like i was going to break it. So after that I said screw it, threw it all away and started over. Oh well. I guess I am on exhaust #3. At least I haven't spent all that much yet. I am very confident that this new 4" set up will do it for me. With a lot of pipe and a real muffler, I bet it will be low toned and quiet enough.

Thanks for the thread! I have not read it yet (about to do that now), but I allways love when people help.
