82 camaro headers

OK. I have a 82 camaro and recently began upgrading my exhaust (1 5.8" shorty headers to a 1 7/8" long tube Headmen Hustler headers). The problem I have is that the big tube headers only come to fit 83-92 camaros. When I talked to the manufactures they told me that I needed to change the front control arms on my 82 to make the headers fit properly. Apparently, the 82's were built a bit different. Anyone have any other suggestions? Could I modify my existing arms to make the headers fit? Any input is appreciated.
Thx,
Scott

I had to trim the rear corner off of the passenger side a-arm to give my downpipe flange clearance.

I'd never heard of an a-arm difference with 82's before. I didn't notice any difference with the '86 donor car a-arms, but I didn't look all that closely, either, and the donor car is long gone.

Scott,

While I have yet to see the difference I know that all of the header manufactures say that the 82 control arm is different then 83 and up. You shuld be able to modify the header to make them fit without much effort.

I also know that the front sway bar mount is different. Tht is why they do not sell a Wonder bar for our cars.

Global West does. I chose to make my own before I knew this.IIRC the 83+up brace is TS16 and the 82 is TS14.
