new exhuast design!

i just thought of a cool exhaust setup and made a crappy paint illustration. i would need 2 round dynomax ultrflows, 3"in/out (http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku)

i want the mufflers to be tucked up as high as possible so they are above the bottom of the bumper so a couple of turndowns off the muff will finish it off.

how does that sound to you guys? is it doable? do you think it will sound more like true duals with two muffs? and i have heard that exhaust sytems perform best with the mufflers closest to the exit.

That will work and that is my plan when I go with a true dual setup but I don't think I am going to use round mufflers. Those mufflers might be too long. I'd crawl under the car and measure first.

The only problem I see with 6" round mufflers is that the tips wont be lined centered correctly - one will be closer to the center of the car then the other because of the way the spare tire and hatch area wells are positioned. I don't think this will matter much in your setup because you will be using turn downs which will probably be hidden.

As far as sound - It wont sound like duals but will probably sound simalar to the L98 corvette exhaust sytems which are y'd from the headers into a single pipe then y'd under the axle to the two mufflers which sit in the same location you are planing.

Thats a very similar setup to what the '82 V8 cars had.

Doesnt hurt to try, if you dont like it you can allways change it up, I think it would be worth the attempt, as said above, measure twice cut(order) once...

Mufflers are too long, without the tubing going to them by about 6 inches.

lol yea they are too long, i drew that setup when i was like 14 lol and it didnt really work out, mufflers to fit would have to be 13-14 inches or less i believe

well i originaly wanted to use borla ovals, but i thought they were too wide to tuck up at 9". i could also use a couple round magnaflows. also the dynatech ovals look good too at 14"long by 7"wide and 4 1/2"tall.

i just want it to sound different than the same old catbacks everybody bolts on. and i planned on fabbin this up my self so i was wondering if i can buy a mandrel bent intermediate pipe to start with. then a couple of j bends and y and i should be able to weld her up.

- i havent had a chance to go measure because my car is sittin in a foot of snow under a cover.

I don't think those round Dynomax ultra-flo's are going to be too long. The case on those mufflers is only 16" long. This guy used the flowmaster hushpower mufflers in that location which have a 18" long body.

Other than that second muffler you through in there (which would only add more restriction) what you have there is called a Borla cat-back.

i made a set up like what you drew up top, but where the cut out is i put a single chamber flowmaster, and just split the pipes after the rear axle and sent them out. i have a video if you would like to hear it.

i see in my new jegs that they come in 16" so i will probably go that route. will this be quieter than one oval ultraflow with a dump in the stock location?

the vid does a poor job of showing alot of the bass cant be recorded. the single chamber made the car sounds much deeper.

ehh i just listened to it again and it sounds about right :P

would that not just be a stock exhaust running 2 mufflers instead of a big single...?

being that the design is parallel rather then in series it would actually lower restriction vs only using a single muffler
