a few questions setting up custom exhaust

ok here's the deal...I don't know what I should do with the exhaust on my 88 IROC. I'm swapping out the trashed 350 with a 350 from a 92 Z/28. Also, I'm putting Summit 2.5" headers on it. I want to run pipes in front of the rear axle with turn downs and 40 series Flowmaster mufflers. Now, should I use 2.5" piping or go for 3"? should I get better and/or larger diameter headers? Is this a stupid idea in the first place? I've seen so many different setups, I just need a little advice and claficication. Thanks.

Have you already bought the 2 1/2" headers?

buy the hedman or hooker headers for an extra 20- 50 bucks,,, they got 3 inch .

dual out before the tires is very hard to do with good ground clearance,, especially with big flowmaster mufflers.

I think he means turndowns in front of the axle. Your really in a no win situation here. The floorpan just isn't shaped correctly to cleanly accept duals. Do a search or look for a sticky. Somewhere on this board someone made a posting showing everyones exhaust.

Re: a few questions setting up custom exhaust

yeah I've already got the 2 1/2"s. I was planning on getting better ones later on...these are just preliminary I guess you could say. I figured ground clearance would be the main issue...before removing the s*** engine, it had the stock manifolds and y-pipe into a flowmaster single chamber (and thats it, no pipes, nothin) and the dang muffler was maybe 2 inches from the ground? I dunno. So do you guys think I'd be better off just running it out the back, or maybe having it exit right behind the rear axle? I appreciate everyone's input. Thanks.

go with a single 3 inch back from pretty much any company, thatll be plenty for a 350
