Exhaust Options. Dual or just 3"
Exhaust Options. Dual or just 3"
I'm not sure what the factory pipe size is on the RS with the 305. But I did the LT1 swap, and now need to make the engine breath better. I was wanting to do dual. But I was talking to a few shops and they say its not possible. However after searching this site I found it is possible, just very hard. I am definitely doing headers.
My question is... Would dual exhaust be a big bennefit over just a single 3" pipe down to 1 muffler with dual outputs? I was thinking flowmaster Delta 50 muffler. because I don't want the car crazy loud.
I was thinking what I could do is headders, down to 2 high flow cats, into 1 3" pipe, into a 3" series 50 muffler, split into 2 pipes out the back.
let me know your thoughts, and or suggestions.

From what I understand you can get dual exhaust but if you want ground clearance then you would have to use, bullets, spintech, flowmaster outlaw or their 1 chamber muffler. You can use full size mufflers but you would give up ground clearance.

i got true dual 3" with an xpipe and headman long tubes and ive lowered it with sportlines and i still have ground clearance, no shop will do it bc u have to customize etc and its alot of work but if your creative and want it, it can be done. if you have an LT1 then the mod is up to u, a highflow single 3" exhaust is good for 400hp i just did the true duals bc im gona eventually put in a 383 500hp motor and i need it to breath. also no single 3" setup sounds like a true dual car, its a whole diff animal. i get compliments all the time and it is LOUDDDD!
up to u, dual 2.5" would flow enough for 500hp but dual 3" is enough for 600+hp. i love the sound of my exhaust and next to my friends single 3" with a flowmaster he cant stand the sound of his.

it all depends on your power goals. Speaking from experience a single three inch catback and shorties will work for up to about 350rwhp.. after that you need a system that breathes better.
My old setup was edelbrock tes and a 3inch borla catback that dynoed at 288rwhp with just bolt-ons, a fairly common bolt-on LT1 number. With a custom cam, LE2 heads and a dynotune it made 363rwhp through the muffler. I don't think the borla was setting me back near as much as the headers, but I will never know since the whole system was switched out.
The current setup is longtubes with a 3inch y-pipe into a 4inch mufflex catback, still single tube. All else the same it just dynoed in at 390rwhp I expect more after I add a bit more fuel. Never messed around with duals since I am not that creative and options that flowed as well for my needs were available.
