Thats a lot for a shipped pair of headers, and not to many people have tried them out so ud be one of the first if you did purchase some.

. i would buy a set of LT's from hawks because they are a trusted name, but the price is just too high for me when i can get a set for about half that. Supreme Member

For some it would be having to pass smog. Others maybe the reduced ground clearance. As was said above for some the price.

Re: Why isn't anyone talking about Hawks Stainless Longtubes??????
i just cant figure out why? i mean they know the demand for exhaust systems is high, but they for some reason make stuff thats out of the price range for 75% of the people on here, it's just ridiculous!
i can't figure out why someone hasn't made a good pair of 1 3/4 or 1 7/8 shortys set for our cars, crome, ceramic, stainless hell just the thought of having them available is enough, but until someone makes some for a resonable price then things like stainless longtubes will just be the only option, that will more or less not be taken

Re: Why isn't anyone talking about Hawks Stainless Longtubes??????
cramming a set of shorties in is no fun on these cars i imagine long tubes are much worse, i was consdering a set till i came across an article in chevy high per. it was a header comparison on a 383 with a 230/236 cam and the 11/2" shorties made the highest torque (490) and only fell off about 30hp at 6500 against the 17/8" super comps. and 6500 rpm tuned port cars dont see often. torque rules!

i just noiticed these myself, been hanging out on 4th gen sites more

thats a fair price for a set of custom longtubes made out of stainless.
i paid 600 bucks for coated stainless slp shorties and even though they worked and added hp longtubes are really the way to go these days. i wish there were more of a market for thirdgen longtubes in stainless and maybe some prices would go down, however, thats about the same price range as ls1's 4th gen longtubes and theres plenty of market.
i just put on longtubes on my 4th gen and the only clearance issue for the stock k-member is so meefy i had to grind off some of the passengers side edges and top bulge in it. those were 700 bucks from another company.
later down the road i might as well go with longtubes for my thirdgen and redo the whole exhaust since mine is pretty ghetto over the years.

Re: Why isn't anyone talking about Hawks Stainless Longtubes??????
I bought some of the hawks SS LTs recently, they didn't fit with my Richmond 5 speed, the collector was hitting the flange for the slave cylinder. I am exchanging them for the hooker ceramic coated LTs. The SS headers were nice and would fit an automatic just fine, just didn't fit with my manual. Btw Bruce from Hawks is a good guy and very easy to deal with.

Re: Why isn't anyone talking about Hawks Stainless Longtubes??????
Ground clearance shouldn't be an issue because if you've visited the Hawks website, one of the selling points is that the ground clearance for their SS long tubes is better than the competition, and from the pictures I'd agree.
If they sold them at the same price as 2210's, they'd be a definite competitor, the price is simply too high. $800 for just headers is a but much, and the SS factor isn't worth the extra dough.

Re: Why isn't anyone talking about Hawks Stainless Longtubes??????
exactly, i swear shortys would be good enough is someone would make a real good 13/4 or better 17/8 with a 3" y pipe.....
1. you wouldn't have to worry about ground clearance
2. they would probably be in a better price range like the macs or hookers
3. just about everyone could use them
4. they would preform well especailly a 17/8
5. you don't have to have special k members or tranny cleance issues
there you have it, 5 good reasons why they should be made, but instead we watch as the aftermarket sits on their hands and does nothing...
my proof, look at a jegs catalog, now look at the mustang section, what 6-7 pages, now look at the tpi lt1 ls1, what 2-3....
i rest my case!

Re: Why isn't anyone talking about Hawks Stainless Longtubes??????
Ask him if the flanges they use are the exact same grade as the pipes. I've heard of different stainless grades being welded together on headers and the different heat cycle speeds create cracks at the welds. This was with turbo headers though so the weight of the turbo helped the cracking along, still something I'd ask before I bought.

Do I coat these headers or wrap them? I m installing a d1sc (in mail) and I think the air intake sits right above the l/s header.

because they are $799!!!!!!!!!!!! there is not a high demand for stainless headers when coated steel ones are the same performance and cheaper..

I really don't think it's a bad price at all I was looking on summit the other day, and a set of hooker coated 2210's are $695, I would much rather spend an extra 100 bucks for stainless because its gonna last longer, Im really thinking about getting the hawks, but im unsure on how well they fit thats the only thing stopping me Supreme Member

Re: Why isn't anyone talking about Hawks Stainless Longtubes??????
you guys have a point there.. but i got my hooker LT's for $600 on summit.. coated and all.. guess inflation took place since then..
if doug's came out with their long tubes earlier i probably would have gone with those..

Re: Why isn't anyone talking about Hawks Stainless Longtubes??????
I guess I'm more willing to pay more for these since I already have a lowered car and do NOT want headers exiting below the frame rails, like the Hookers and Hedmans do. I'll build a notched transmission crossmember to keep the pipes tucked under the car. just personal preference I guess, but I'm willing to pay more for a part that I want than for something I'm going to have to make work.

Re: Why isn't anyone talking about Hawks Stainless Longtubes??????
shhhh
if I were going with Hookers or something, I figure the collectors would be the lowest point so there would be no point to notching the crossmember and I'd lose ground clearance beneath the entire car. With the Hawk's, since they tuck up so well, the trans crossmember becomes the low point it seems, so to keep my ground clearance it becomes a requirement. this way, I shoudn't lose any ground clearnace at all, whereas I would have lost quite a bit going with anything else
an hour of fab work on the crossmember is worth it to keep what little ground clearance I have now
