Single vs Dual Exhaust?
Ok so im going out this weekend to look for parts I only want to spend about $600-$700. I want headers, cat, pipe material, muffler, 3" Tips
Is there any advantage do doing a duel exhaust with 2 cats, 2 mufflers x pipe vs using a y-pipe with 1 cat and 1 muffler? What would be better to go with?
Also can anybody recomend any good parts that worked well for them or they liked that fit my price range?

Re: Single vs Dual Exhaust?
Single exhaust has the advantage of being far cheaper. Everyone has their own idea of which setup is better. I'm partial to dual exhaust myself but it's mainly because, I want a retro look.
A single exhaust on the 97 Z28 I had with factory exhaust manifolds and a Borla catback worked more than fine though. There's no reason it wouldn't hold true on a lesser motor like the 3rd gens have. Plenty of people stick with a single exhaust setup.

the 3inch single will be fine, give you more ground clearance, and the velocity of one pipe helps pull more exhaust out.

Re: Single vs Dual Exhaust?
all about the motor and wat ur putting out or gona have it putting out down the road. single 3" is effective up to 350-400hp, anything higher and it will be a restriction but thats debatable, and the peices u use will determine its HP capabilities. if u want to keep the stock single setup and will have more than 400hp they have 4" single exhaust and that will flow alot more. 400hp would also benifit from duals 2.5" and 3" for 500hp and beyond. Xpipe will help alot compared to the ypipe or even an Hpipe with scavaging and equalizing the pressure as well as tone reduction and actual sound/flow capabilites...all pluses tho.single 3"s is limited to the headers and ypipe, bc all shortie headers that are used with the ypipe are shorties for one(suck compared to longtubes) and use 2.5" collectors which is the limiting factor, they then run into 2.5" pipes that bend and merge into a single 3"(those 2.5" pipes are the next restriction) and then into a the 3" catback. personally anything with a V8 and is a performance/muscle car should have duals. as far as cheaper single 3" is not cheaper than duals. a cheap high flow 3" system would be edelbrock headers/ypipe which will run u roughly 300$(non coated/reg steel not stainless and prob more$ now) then cat back will run u 230-350$ and more depending on brand/material, thats roughly 600$ without a cat etc...
my true dual 3" runs headman longtubes 130$, headman 3" extensions 25$, summit universal xpipe 100$, 2 force 3" mufflers 70$ pair. thats a total of 325$ and will flow 600+ hp, thats too much exhaust for my modded 350TPI and any 305 but down the road im goin 500hp 383. and the xpipe changes the tone dramatically and really kicks in above 2500-3000 rpms. only real advantages of a single 3" is the ground clearance and is better for low HP LB9/TBI/LQ5 or watev 305's and u dont have to make the exhaust urself so those with no inginuiety or who cant work with there hands and want something that will just bolt right in can just do that.

first pic is of it already welded out of the car and the other is it by the deep trans pan, the shinny black bar is the thru floor subframes as u can see by notching the subframe the pipe tucks up to the floor pan and doesnt sit lower than the deep pan. it wont let me post the same pics twice so heres the thread
