run it all the way back...or stop before axle?
ok guys i have the hooker 2055's 1 5/8 on my 305 tbi 92 camaro running to the 3" y pipe to a 3" in/out converter. now here's my question i did all the work my self but i don't do pipes so i took it to a shop last year and they said they couldn't fit 3" over the axle so they used 2 1/2 from the converter back and ran it over the axle then out the rear. i always feel like i'm missing a little now? so i've been debating whether to just cut it all off from the cat back and run a 3" pipe back to just before the axle and end it there with a down spout. or should i just keep as is?
and if i do end it before the axle will i get a lot of fumes in the car or not to noticable??

I had an idea similar to yours. except i was going to use cutouts and keep the stock exhust running out the back but use the cutouts to direct it out the side exits if i need more power.

Well whoever told you you can't fit a 3" pipe over the axle didn't know what they were talking about. TPI thirdgens came with 2.75 pipe over the axle, and there are tons of 3" catbacks from after market companies like Flowmaster, Edelbrock, Magnaflow, etc that fit nicely. There are thousands of us running or that have run 3" cat back exhausts with no issues. Just buy a 3" cat back for it and be done.

Yeah i kind of figured but i guess i let the guy talk me into it. But here's the thing it's already there and i already paid for it. I'd rather not have to spend more money on a cat back system that i kind of already have. So i guess my question would be is it losing any h/p due to the 2 1/2 from cat back and if so should i just end it before the axle with a 3" straight pipe?

well assuming your TBI 305 is stock, a single 2.5" pipe is probably not hurting you but it is certainly not doing you any favors. If you are going to keep it, but you also want max power, I'd install a cutout before the cat.

I have a dump before the rear axle and I have no fumes come into the car even when I idle for a while
If you have alot of rust holes then you would but otherwise just do whatever

Yeah, the exhaust shop I first took mine to said they couldn't fit 2.5" over the axle
So I ordered the pipe from summit. You could cut it before the axle... but you can get the 3" I-pipe from summitracing.com I'd probably just get a whole new pre-bent 3" cat-back system, cause your I-pipe back is 2.5", so thats the whole cat-back anyway...
