Exhaust Predicament

My 89 RS (305/T5) has had a crack in the Y pipe (at the junction) since I bought the car, causing a small leak. While "fixing the cat" today, I was wiggling the Intermediate pipe and CLUNK! The Y-pipe snapped and I am currently riding around with open manifolds. While this is funny, I do realize I have to get this fixed and soon.

I later plan on dropping a 350 in the car next year sometime and was thinking about getting duals now to save a step, but I'm not sure.

My question: Would it be cheaper to weld up duals/2 mufflers or a new Ypipe/Ipipe/muffler? (I already have a hooker muffler from previous plans)

I'm thinking the Ypipe route may be best

EDIT: I'm not too concerned about Performance, just something that will sound decent for awhile. I searched and found SOME info, but none specific to my situation.

Thanks to all who reply!

Re: Exhaust Predicament

do yourself a favor and build a good y-pipe now. That will help you immensely in the future. Use a flowmaster (or equivalent) 2 into 1 adapter to get back to your cat and tap the free horsepower waiting for you after losing your crappy stock y-pipe. It should look something like this: (I can't attach the picture because it says it is in this thread, dual exhaust advantage/gain over single 3")

Sorry for the SNAFU!!

Re: Exhaust Predicament

I really don't have the ability to fab up a new Y-pipe myself. I was thinking of having the exhaust shop fab one, but I doubt they will since my cat is gone/non-functioning. Perhaps one of these $50 high flow cats will change his mind.

As far as headers, I'm going to hold off and wait due to money constraints, but will consider some hooker LT's.
