is it hard to have true dual exaust on a 84?
it looks like theres stuff in the way, i dont like how the dual pipe look coming off the muffler and i dont think it probably help the performance much either

If this a Camaro or Firebird, then it's the same as any other 82-92 Camaro or Firebird in that regard.
Yes dual exhaust is "possible". However, in general it is not PRACTICAL. Various other important things like ground clearance, access to other components such as the starter, etc. tend to suffer. It takes a real accomplished hand and ALOT of time to make a dual for these cars that doesn't turn out being just another hack job. Since the combination of a high $$/hr person (expert) and lots of hours tends to mean it's a high price, it's not a cost-effective mod for anybody that has to pay to get it done.
The best all-around choice for most of use is a 3" cat-back. That has the same cross-sectional area as 2¼" duals. Entirely enough for some weenie 305.
In the case of your LG4 car, EVERY SINGLE PIECE of the exhaust system is EXTREMELY restrictive. EVERY PIECE needs to go, and be replaced by something better. DO NOT get ANYTHING that is listed for ANY LG4 application; they will all PRESERVE the bottleneck, namely the tiny Y-pipe. I'd suggest getting a good-quality chassis-specific set of headers, specifically designed for our specific cars and not "generic" or just the cheeeeepest thing you can come up with that claims to be "headers" on the box. SLP & Edelbrock are 2 that I've had good results with. I would avoid Flowtech and Hedman. Whatever you get, either buy them ceramic-coated, or get it done; it makees them look better, last longer, and run better, and it lowers underhood temps DRAMATICALLY which lengthens the life of every other part under there (especially wiring and hoses). Get something like the headers for a 88 350 TPI; the cat for the same application; and a 3" cat-back from Hooker, Flowmaster, Dynomax, Edelbrock, Borla, etc. etc. etc. all for the same application.
If you leave the exhaust manifolds on there, then pretty much NOTHING ELSE that you do to the exhaust will have much effect. You could put 4" "true duals" on there and still gain less than 10 HP. In other words, it's A WASTE to worry about just one piece, while the other pieces are still there and choking the motor.

i have true dual exhaust on my car and i run eibach sportline springs.
exhaust is hedman long tube haders, hedman xtensions, summit universal h-pipe, and 2 moroso spiral mufflers with turn downs.

I have dual exhaust that follows the stock exhaust path under the car.
Long tube headers and 2.5" dual pipes from front to back. The mufflers are custom made modified turbo design. has 3" chrome tips that exit the body under the bumper on the drivers side. Looks like a european V6 exhaust from hell.. Its a very tight fit.
Is it worth it? No. Much better and easier to run a two into 1 main pipe over the axle. (3.5 or 4" if you're making a lot of power) Into 1 big honkin' muffler. At that point you can split off back into two pipes to exit the body at the rear.
This will make as much or more power than a dual exhaust system.

i run 2.5 in duals and i have a thread in here with pics of it. it takes a lil time and effort but worth it once your done.and by the way i had plenty of ground clearance too
