Re: headers
$400 isn't out of the ball park depending what you want to do and where you live(emissions legality and testing) the bad part will be installation if you can't weld or don't know someone who will do it for you. Do you want long tube or shorties. I would recomend hedman long tubes, but some people prefer hooker. It's all a matter of opinion now a days. Y pipes for long tubes are different than shorties, they collect at the end of the transmisson tail shaft opposed to entering the cat on the passenger side. Mufflex has one for $275 and a quality piece (so I have heard) http://www.mufflex-performance.com/fbody_8.html You can then purchase a little extra 3 In pipe from any exhaust shop and utilize the old cat back rear section.
The Hedman's can be found here. http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku
And as for the Hookers? http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku ( I have heard by some people that these are a very tight fit and grinding in a few spots is nessesary in order to get a fitment)
Hooker does have a pair of supercomp long tube headers, but the price for them is astronomical. http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku
84 Z28 Is right, you don't be able to do it all for 400, but it will be Really close. Sell some stuff you don't need or work a few extra hours at work to get the rest.
Cheers!!!

Re: headers
why would he want to get long tubes with a 305?
get the hedman shorties and y pipe youll probably cut it close with the shipping and handling.

Re: headers
Thanks for the advice but I really wasn't clear I don't want to spend more then 400 just on headers and I have more I could spend on y-pipe and the labor I just don't want to spend more then that just on headers... because when at graduate from school this year (july) I'm getting an ls1 t/a so all my money is goin to be tied up in that..... so I just want to go on a buget as to how much I spend JUST on headers
Thanks for the help, you guys are great!!!

Re: headers
i will put it to you this way. I wouldnt spend a ton of money on headers for a 305. Becuase at the end of it all its still just a 305. This is all I would put on it if I were you.

And I beg to differ. That is a horrible way to go about headers on a street-driven 305. The cost of getting the whole thing installed (assuming you don't have exhaust tubing, cutting and welding equipment laying around) will greatly exceed $400, and ground clearance will be a joke.
This is what I recommend you do: http://store.summitracing.com/partde...0&autoview=sku . Headers and the best y-pipe out there, and it all bolts into your system (with one simple AC bracket modification). $440 plus shipping for the whole thing.
Works every time it's been tried.

Re: headers
this thread is going some where that it shouldnt i take back what i said about the hedmans...
your going to keep the 305 until you get the ls1 trans am...thats cool
get flow tech thier good for what your doin and still be money conscious
http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku
flow tech sucks for 350 but thier good enough for a stock 305
even better yet keep your stock y pipe and just exchange the headers
the tpi y pipe flows better then the flow tech but i not shure its some thing i pulled from storage in the bak of my head.
or take those 400 and make shure the car is runnin right so it last you until the ls1 comes around.

Re: headers
has any one here used teh edelbrock ceramic coated headers, they seemed pretty good at an affordable price with the y pipe included http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/store...44737_-1_10605
