Cat delete, what kind of gains have you all noticed?

My cars cat is a little rough lookin but is sitll perfectly funtional (as a Cat can be i guess) but Its the original and should be replaced. I think 19 yrs and 58k miles probably have restricted it and Im wondering what kind of gains i can expect for deleting it all together.

Removing your catalytic converter, or any emissions component, on a street vehicle is a violation of FEDERAL emissions laws, regardless of your state or local emissions laws and smog check testing.

Do a search and you'll find out more. This type of illegal behavior comes up in topics quite often I'm afraid.

Just replace it with an aftermarket one such as Magnaflow and you'll be keeping our air cleaner and the car will still run great with the new cat.

I'm sure you would feel a difference if you put a high flow on. That converter on there is pretty old.

its a rediculous differance if you asked me i took my cat and my mufflers off and there was about a 18hp gain and a real noticable difference but its currently not on the road and not inspected. i would recomend doing what the others said and go with a high flow thats what in going to get.

I lost performance when it came off. Gained it back when the high flow went on.

VincentZ28 did not loose a thing with his high horsepower car. This is when he put the cats back on for testing. He has since just left them on the car.

These guys are right, the original quarter-century old cat technology is not optimal for either flow or emissions. But you will not be able to measure a performance difference between a straight pipe and a high-flow cat, and putting the cat back on can save you problems down the road. Even the $60 dollar ones that Kragen sells are vastly superior to the OEM third-gen cats.

high flow cats are junk, its a waste of money. state law says your cat only has to be there and visable not functional. if you have a older V8 and its the original get rid of it. either take it off and hollow it out or just put a pipe on,

but remember without it there you will not pass inspection.

Wow, you couldn't be more wrong. Anyway, gutting your cat is illegal. If you want to risk doing it, go ahead. Your not going to see a difference between a high flow and a gutted cat.

Yep, you're wrong. Emissions is a federal law, that supercedes state law. And the cat has to be functional to pass the test.
