headers

Read the sticky at the top and found it to be very informative really the only question I have is why such a big price difference..headman #68470 147.99 (jegs) and the y pipe #17470 102.99 also jegs and the hooker 2055 where 449.99 from jegs with y pipe both painted black. also I seen the 2055 came with air tubes I have a carb so i dont need those so is there an alternetive? and last how long will the black painted ones hold up? cause the ceramic coated hookers where like 800 bucks and I never seen a ceramic coated headman...any ideas?

The Hedmans use a 2-1/2" pipe with an adapter for a 3" cat. The 2055HKR's are great pieces with the best 3" y-pipe out there (never smaller than 3" after the 2 sides come together - no other commercially-available y-pipe is made that way).

If you don't need the A.I.R. tubes, cut them off and weld the holes shut. You're still performance ahead for the $'s.

Black paint lasts about 15 minutes on headers.

Hedmans are available coated. They call it "HTC" coating. http://www.hedman.com/pages/hedmanmain.html 68470 is 68476 coated.

Re: headers

So if I go coated on the hooker headers am I still able to cut and weld on it? or will that damage the coating? cause I dont have a shop anywheres near me that can re-coat them...also is there a reason to get the one's with air or is there on without?

As I see it, not wanting A.I.R. tubes is the worst reason for not getting 2055HKR's. Buy them uncoated, cut the tubes off and weld the hole shut (I smoothed out the pipe inside the primary tubes and radius'd the corners to match the exhaust ports a little better as well), fit check them and open up the ball connector to match the y-pipe down-tubes mounting; then send them off to Jet Hot for ceramic coating.

I realize this isn't an unbox and install process I'm suggesting. I am suggesting, though, that this will give you the best exhaust over the long haul. If you do want to unbox and install, and don't want to hook up A.I.R., get them coated, and cap off the A.I.R. check valve mount fitting.

Not to sound like a complete lazy a$$ or anything but holy..haha I can deffinitly apreciate the work that you put into yours, but for me thats way outta my price range..by the time the headers get to me were talking about 550 then I have to pay someone to weld them up the holes after I cut them off then I have to send them away to Jet Hot which I assume is in the state's not sure what that would cost or what it's worth to have them coated but you can kinda see where I'm going with this...I don't mean to seem like I'm whinning but I'm in the middle of buying a house and paying for the wedding and hopefully a trip to the DM so thats just a little outta my reach...for now

Canada? I know there has been discussion of sources of ceramic coating north of the border.

I can appreciate what you're saying. But, for whatever reason, the best y-pipes come with emissions headers (the other "good" choice would be Hedmans for dual cats - you can "Y" them together where the cats would go if you don't need cats, but they'll have the A.I.R. tubes as well).

Re: headers

What exactly makes the y pipes better? is it just overall size in/out cause I have a shop lined up here that can do some really nice work if you wanna pay for it...I have no problems having a y pipe chopped up a bit, if it means I get some headers without "A.I.R" I would rather spend the money and get the nice headers first rather than buy a deccent set then down the road go for more power and need a better header...is there a header that I could just get a y pipe built for? cause that might be the better choice for me. By the way I appreciate all your help. Oh what about the 2460's the shop I'm getting to do my work next summer can do manderal (sp?) piping so would that be a way to go?
