Hooker Super Competition Long tube header(2210) leak at slip tube collector...

Well, I have had this pesky exhaust leak for quite some time now. The car still runs a little rich, and if I drive it for long distances or idle for a while, the whole car smells like exhaust fumes. After a while, the smell gets in my clothes(which I don't mind but it drives the gf nuts). Anyway, I have narrowed it down to the passenger side header #8 cylinder slip tube. It's not leaking at the flange, but at the point where it physically slips into the main body of the header. I was just curious to see if anyone else has ran into this issue before, and if so what did you do to rectify it? Thanks in advace for any info or suggestions!!!!

This has been on the board for a bit. I have seen a couple of threads on this. Here is the current one.

Actually, I did do a search, but I typed in exhaust leak(which is pretty vague, I know) and went through like 4 or 5 pages of posts and didn't see anything. Then I did a search for #8 slip tube and didn't find anything pertinent. Thank you for the info though, it is most appreciated. I guess I will drop by the parts store and grab me a tube of that stuff and see if it works....

Rayzor32- The car doesn't smell like rotten eggs. Plus, it is a carb'd engine and I don't have any o2 sensors. Plan on putting in 2 wideband A/F's one for each bank so I can monitor my air/fuel ratios.

I've been running 2210's for at least 7 years. I always coat the #8 tube with the Orange Hi Temp sealant and have never had a problem.

I'm lucky my LT headers do not have a slip fit collector. I had a set custom made and they tuck up really nice and no exhaust leaks. They have v-band clamps for collectors.
