Re: 2210 LT's slip joint sealing?

bad... I have tried 3 times and it keeps blowing out.

I am pretty sure its cuz I never let it cure a full 24 hrs though.

This Sat it is supped to rain, so I am going to try and seal it tomorrow morning. And let it dry till mid sunday. That should do it. Glob it on with a ton and cut off what is in the way later.

When it seals it is nice, but sometimes when it leaks it just pisses me off. But oh well, they are nice headers.

Re: 2210 LT's slip joint sealing?

I put a light coating of anti-seize on mine and its never leaked. I've had them off and on several times and the tube always comes right out with the anti-seize on there.

Re: 2210 LT's slip joint sealing?

I always drive mine too soon before it is fully cured. I install it with an *** load of that copper sealer stuff and I have waited 2 FULL days. I am going to fire it up tonight when I get home and see if my eyes water like they did when the leak was there.

Lets hope they stay dry, haha.

If not I will try anti-seize.

Re: 2210 LT's slip joint sealing?

I never had a slip joint ever blow out. How is that you guys are getting these exhaust leaks? Are you stating that the exhaust is coming up through the number 8 slip joint? If so, you have some serious restrictions some where. I can't fathom how that exhaust could/would come out of there??

Re: 2210 LT's slip joint sealing?

Not sure how you can't. You can have open headers and if you have a pin hole in a collector, gasses will come out of it. With a full exhaust you will def has exhaust come out of there if it is not well sealed. No questions asked. You could take your cat-back off and it would still leak if not sealed.

You just must be lucky in this department. Different people are lucky in different places. For example, I am lucky with wheel hop. I have aftermarket parts that many other have and they complain and complian about hop and no matter what I do to mine, it just won't hop. Lucky.

You must be too.

Re: 2210 LT's slip joint sealing?

Never used any sealer of any kind back when I had those on my 84. I had 2.5" duals with flowmaster 40's dumped at the axle and I never once had that slip tube leak. Ever.

Yeah. Well I let the copper stuff dry 100% over three days. Def not blowing out now. Feels very solid.
