thought id update this thread.... 3 days ago i got pulled over at 615pm on a main road... cop says my exhaust is tooo LOUD! and is there a reason for this? i laugh at him after he gives me a ticket and said let me ask u something. i said how is it that u can give me a ticket for a loud exhaust... how do u judge its too loud? he says i can tell... i said law says i can have it under 96DB and he says "where did u hear that" i said its the law... he said IVE NEVER HEARD OF THAT and its not here in little falls NJ.

i then said so ur giving me a tickey bc its too loud and u have no proof or anything to say its too loud? he said yes. he then says is there a reason its that loud, i said yes... its an aftermarket performance upgrade.

he said how would u like it if i drove by ur house at 12am u wouldnt like that would u... i said i love the sound of loud muscle cars. he said its loud... and points to the cars driving by and says can u hear those cars i said not really but then again thats not a 20+ yr old muscle car and those are nutless ***** 4 bangers lol. he then says i give motorcycles tickets all the time. i said u give motorcyles with stock exhausts tickets?? he said yep.

i said they come like that from the factory he said he doesnt care. so i laughed at him again. i said do u harrass every car in your town or just me... he said where not harrassing you... i said u pulled me over at 615pm on a main road... not a residentual road, to give me a ticket for a "loud muffler" i laughed cuz thats what he wrote on the ticket bc i didnt read it before. i then said the last time u pulled me over it was at a road block to give me a ticket for no front plate even tho it was on the windshield. why are u harrassing me? he said again where not harrassing you... its a small town with alot of cops and where proactive! i laughed again of course and said your proactive harrassing ppl with cars that are better than your nutless honda hybrid for insignificant tickets bc you have nothing better 2 do. i said i;ll be seeing u in court with a DB reading. have a nice day and then gunned it alil for good measure lol.

he then walked away with a dumb look on his face. I HATE COPS AUGH!

 

Customblackbird, I am a Law Enforcement Officer in the state of Florida. I drive a big block third generation and I love the sound of a healthy muscle car. But I have to be honest, from reading the negativity in your posts I am sure that if I stopped you in Florida I would conduct an on site inspection (We are allowed to do this since there is no inspection in Florida) and probably write you several citations. I love racing and going fast but there is a time and place for everything. Definately slow down when kids are present and keep it quite in residential neighborhoods. Our state statue is 316.272 if you ever wanted to look it up. In Florida our cars must be quiter than 72dba at less than 35mph and quiter than 79dba over 35mph. The statue also reads "Every motor vehicle shall at all times be equipped with an exhaust system in good working order and in constant operation, including muffler, manifold pipe, and tailpiping to prevent excessive or unusual noise". I don't know if you have ever got to mess around with a db meter, but 72 is not loud at all.

 

Well my dad is a cop too, he was a sergent in my town for 35 years, now retired and is a cop at UCONN.

He said the cops call it "fishing" because on slow nights, they have nothing better to do than look for any reason to pull people over. I used to have a loud exhaust on my last car, and never really got bothered in my town. However, at college in NH I got bothered all the time, but never a ticket.

He also said, the reason for "going fishing" is not just to give useless tickets. He said that if work has been slow, you need to proove to the town that you have been doing something, or else they will fire you. So it does put food on the table.

Also, he said that more of the younger new cops like to do it, because that if they were to pull you over for "loud exhaust," you might roll down the window and they might get a scent of weed smoke. Then, they get to search the car, and if they hit the jackpot by finding a felony amount, that could very well be their promotion or a raise. Or they could find an illegal weapon, or all kinds of other stuff.

Im happy because i have an electic cutout that will switch from dumped super 40 to a 4cyl. muffler that has absolutly NO noise hardly from it so im just waiting for the oppertunity to use it on a cop

But ive had my fair share of tickets, and yes a burnout is the same as a drag racing ticket, got one for doing a stupid 1 wheel peel in what used to be a stock 4.3 tbi 4wd blazer . wow. my insurace skyrocketed all for nothing.

i was in missouri once going to a show and got pulled over by the po po for speeding and i was super super nice the whole time like i always am, and always it gets me no-where/ I knew when he came up and said get out of the car, sit in my passenger seat...that i was getting a ticket LOL
Funny thing was he was giving me treatment asking millions of questions and he looks over and said in a "u little ****" kind of voice " oh, I see you have a budwieser shirt on" and im like, uh no, its a truck shirt, and i showed it to him, hes like...uh. oh.....ok
.... LOL The shirt was a truck show shirt in the same form as a budweiser picture but with different words.

Of course i got harassed about tint and whatnot.

 

partsbin321... i understand the fact that a car like a import with a fart can is annoying and im not saying that i would get alil tissy if a harley was to full open throttle infront of my house at 2am (i would run out and chase him down to see if my car was louder lol jk) and i would understand if i where to get a citation for excessive loud noise... say i where reving the hell outa my engine, i mean at 4k on up my car is loud obviously but when im cruzing on a main road at 1400rpms at 615pm with lots of cars on the road its busy time in NJ at that time... u think its ok for them to harrass me? i mean if i where doing something wrong like speeding/racing/burnouts/flooring and overreving my car but i wasnt. i was doin 30mph at 13-1400rpms in a 30. i get harrassed, i cant even make it through a road block without them looking over my car... is that right? is that just? is that not harrassment? and im usually nice wit the cops i dont get an attitude or disrespect them in anyway unless the cop starts with me or gives me a ticket and i still dont usually ijust get sarcastic. i dont drive fast when kids are around... i dont think i could live with myself if i hit a kid or something... and again it wasnt a residential area, it was a main road.

i believe in the bigging of this thread its stated that the NJ db level is 96... i could be wrong i will have to reread it. but partsbin321.... what and where would i have to look to get the info on the DB level for NJ? and probably write you several citations... so ur saying u would have purposely just looks for tickets to give me? that is kinda ridiculous... i mean if ur cop u should be doing cop things not harrasing ppl and making money "fishing" cuz u got nothing better to do.... thats just sad i believe. maybe the towns should have less cops or increased crime... i mean its no longer "land of the free". if he was to do an "on sight" inspection and could actually prove that my car is over the limit then i would have nothing to say... but he has no proof and thats just ignorant. cops have way 2 much power. and in NJ we have inspections that are insanely tight, emissons, noise etc and i passed and all my stuff is legit.

yea slow_90firebird ur right. my uncle is a retired state trooper and its ridiculous what they do. its getting outa hand, the ppl have no rights and i wish i could sue the hell outa the police for unjust treatment or harrassment etc just so they would think twice about pulling stupid stuff just to make some $$... bc in reality thats all the police or the judical system cares about. i know more than the average person bc i have multiple friends that are cops.

superbee... lol yea mannnnn. i have yet to be detained but if i keep gettin harrassed im gona have to get loud and start lashing back at the system. even if it helps just alil to give something back to the ppl and not cops with powertrips that have nothing better 2 do. at least pull me over for doing something wrong thats all im asking... but thats 2 much nowadays
