Ok thanks man. Now I just have to get $600 to get the set

Is it true that you can only have the one outlet? Is there anyway of modding the muffler to have 2 without going with the 3" outlets?

I kinda like the single outlet. Can't see and flows better than cross flow. Gonna order the mufflex kit here in a few weeks.. After I get my ls1 in.

Re: Anyone with Mufflex 4in Exaust?Thoughts?

i figured this would be the appropriate thread for this question...

does anyone know how spintechs crossflow muffler is as far as flow goes? the one that comes with the dual exit 4" mufflex kit. if so that would be awesome, as i am debating the kit greatly.

thank you.

Re: Anyone with Mufflex 4in Exaust?Thoughts?

I was running Hooker Super Comp Longtubes into a custom 4" Y-pipe then 4" piping back to the Mufflex. Car dyno's out at 396whp, but I feel the 4" is slightly big, so I'm dropping to a 3.5".

As for the Mufflex, I wanted something a little louder. The Mufflex sounds good and aggressive but not very loud... but at the same time, my muffler is probably the biggest one I've ever seen so I can't expect it to be too loud.

BTW: IF you want a 4" Mufflex, mine'll be up for sale

Re: Anyone with Mufflex 4in Exaust?Thoughts?

Is a 3.5" pipe enough? Here are some figures for you to find out. Exhaust flows 115cfm per square inch of pipe. You need 2.2cfm per horsepower. That should be enough to get you started.

Re: Anyone with Mufflex 4in Exaust?Thoughts?

i think its border line larger enough for this setup, assuming 400whp is around 500 crank...20% drivetrain loss... 2.2 cfm per hp is 1100 cfm and 3.5 inch pipe flows just over 1100

if he goes bullet, that will be enough flow to cover that motor. 3.5 inch is border line, i still wouldnt consider 4inch too big

Haha, listen to this guy, I love it! He knows his exhaust stuff. In my 'exhaust recommendation' thread, you made that technical formula thing for exhausts and I quoted it on like 4 different sites!

Re: Anyone with Mufflex 4in Exaust?Thoughts?

If you were to check out my thread discussing a exhaust setup for my 383 build, you'll see the science behind it I didnt know much about exhaust till i started researching for my build. To build a good system there are alot of things to pay attention to, as a few of us discovered in that thread

Re: Anyone with Mufflex 4in Exaust?Thoughts?

To the people that changed to the dynomax muff,

Did you feel your car was down on power with the flowmaster? Did your car make as much power as you expected?

I mean 50+rwhp is like bolting on a set of really good cylinder heads. IMO, the car would have had to feel "slow".

I have a flowmaster muff on my mufflex. Granted the engine is new and isn't broken in yet and I am having tuning issues but it isn't as fast as I think it should be. I am wondering if it's due to the flowmaster.

Thanks.

Re: Anyone with Mufflex 4in Exaust?Thoughts?

well once its properly tuned up and running the way it should, then pass judgement on the exhaust system.

once tuned, take the flowmaster off and run open pipe to see if it feels like its faster.

Re: Anyone with Mufflex 4in Exaust?Thoughts?

I'm not a big fan of big mufflers... my mufflex is pretty big, but that's also why they recommend a 4in exhaust.

And that's a reason I'm going with Dynomax Bullet's, for better flow = less power loss.

Car's not a daily driver so I like it loud! Had true dual Bullet's on the BlueZ and I was content with it... I could even go louder and be happy

Was it difficult getting the Ultraflo to fit? The hangar brackets for a Mufflex seem to be set up for the offset inlet/outlets of the spintech/flowmaster mufflers.

Mine isn't either but it would get driven more if it was a bit more quiet. Damn, maybe I'm getting too old One cop at an accident scene gave me the stink eye while I rumbled by slow on an uphill part of the road.

Depends on how much power you are currently putting out, if you should be putting out more than 400hp anything less I'd stick to 3"- 3 1/2" tops, I had the 4" in my old 4th gen on a stock LT-1 w/ headers 1000cfm tb, msd 6al, 4.10's 6 speed no cat 125hp shot of spray, let me tell you without the spray it felt so, so, defenitly loss of some low end, but when I hit the spray holy ****! I used to love messing with crotch rockets gear for gear and it would **** em off cause they would try to be cute and try to cat walk by me and think they would pull on me and see that I won't lift because my 6 speed. sorry I was reliving a moment in time, anyway when I would put my old 3" set up I would have mad low end. As far as the 4" and ground clearence no issues there as well mine had the big flowmaster that was 4" in and 4" out

With 400rwhp and nitrous I would vote for the 4". Normally I would think a 3.5" would do the trick.

Re: Anyone with Mufflex 4in Exhaust?Thoughts?

got a single 4inch with ultraflo muffler on my 383, i expect 400 whp too atleast and then comes spray eventually.

Ran 11.6's at 116 so far so i know its got some good power potential. 1.59 60 foot on a so so 80% launch with not optimal 3.42's it still has lowend

anywhere near 400whp+ i'd go 4inch single. up to 400whp go 3.5

some 3" and 3.5" systems tho will support much more power but i think power is left on the table at that point

I went with the 4 inch for the single cat. (Even though I don't have any cats) Then I just merged the 2 pipes into the 4inch.

Well it looks good. Just wanted to see what kit you went with. Just a few more details and my ls1 swap will be fired up for the first time. Thanks again!
