1992 formula exhaust pipe - dual cats

Hi guys and girls. I have a 1992 Formula with the 5.0 tpi, 5 speed and dual cats setup. Well, the pipe from the cats to the muffler is really rotting out and it seems you cannot find them anywhere. I tried maremont, and they use to have it but discontinued it a while ago. Of course the dealer acts like you are talking another language when you ask him. Short of taking it off and having a bender make a new one does anyone know of a aftermarket source? I would really appreciate it. I purchased this car from the original owner for 800 dollars. It had been in a minor fender bender, but I wanted a 5 speed formula and it had the rear disc brakes and dual cat setup. Well, I will try to post a picture of it soon (it's not to pretty right now (lol). Thanks and I hope you can help.

I am 99% sure flowmaster makes a nice cat-back exhaust for dual-cat cars. I beileve its kinda pricey.

Lemme see what others are out there real quick. But now, would be a great time for you to upgrade your exhaust to something that sounds better, and will flow better. No use paying high dollar for a factory pipe that will still flow bad, and will rot again if its not aluminized.

Well, here is the flowmaster system at least...

For a little cheaper option, this jegs system states it will fit dual cat, but the picture is a generic picture. I would call just to make sure tho.

I didnt find any others, but I am sure there are more out there.

Good Luck!

Re: 1992 formula exhaust pipe - dual cats

Hi. Thanks for the quick reply. I try to keep my cars stock. I know that is not reall "in" now days, but my major modified days were back in the 60's and I like to just cruise in them now. I will probably have to take off the original and bring it to a good bender and have him make me one or convert over to a single cat and new y pipe system. I am always open to suggestions though. So if you have any please forward them. Thanks a lot!

Well, if you really are against the flowmaster idea, there is a few other options.

If you are dead set on staying stock, I'm sure Walker or another company will sell a stock replacement intermediate pipe for your car. Try a muffler shop like monroe, they usually have that stuff. Also, I can check GMpartsdirect.com to see if they still have any facotry ones left.

Another option is (like you said) convert to a single cat. However, you being in Cali, you would probably fail smog.

If you still wanted to do that, jeg's sells a off-road y-pipe that comes out in a 3" slip fit, and it includes a test pipe. You could replace the test pipe with a direct-fit 3" catalytic convertor. Then, you could probably use a dynomax 3" catback exhaust. They dynomax supposedly doesent sound much different than stock. Also, the muffler and tips look exactly like a stock exhaust.
