Hooker or headman lt's?
i currently have hooker 2210 lt's on my z, w/ a zz4 hsr &t56. i have a chance to pick up some headman lt's for 100 bucks. they are the 1 5/8, so they have smaller primaries than the hookers at 1 3/4. they are both non coated, but i'd really like extra clearance w/ the headmans, so i can lower the car 1.5". what kind of performance loss will i see by switching from the hookers to the headmans? i have a 2.5" y, w/ 2 high flow cats, to a 3" single exhaust after the headers btw, but i want duals in the future....

I say keep the Hooker LT's. IMO it would be a real PITA to redo your whole exhaust. I would kill to get ahold of the Hooker 1 3/4 LT's.
On the other hand, I dont imagine it would be much of a performance difference going from 1 3/4 LT to 1 5/8 LT. I think I actually saw a dyno test somewhere on a 500 flywheel horsepower engine and he switched from hedman 1 5/8 LT to the hooker 1 3/4 and lost 10 horsepower and 20 ftlbs of torque. ill search the web again for the article.

You will most likely see a small GAIN on the bottom end from the smaller primary. However the setup you have now will have to be modified to get that y-pipe to work, so you may as well do the duels now.
Headers are not the low point in the system anyway-----either of those will be good for a 1.5" drop----the low point is gonna be at the trans x-member.

i agree with Mrbrooks. u will get a small torq gain.
i am in the process of doing duals on my 84 t/a. i chose the hedmans. i just thought that 1 3/4 was to big even after i do the motor swap. not mention clearences in the motor compartment.

stay away from 1 3/4 header unless your going to do a lot of track time or your going to be making serius hp. 1 5/8 headers are good for any street car. i have headman lt 68468 and I have no complaints.

They should'nt hang any lower than you're subframe. The pipe will have to dive under the x-member to clear. That is usually the low point in a long tube system.

http://s272.photobucket.com/albums/j...186548/Camaro/ there is a pic of the exhaust, maybe im missing something. the collecters are only 3.5 inches of the ground, so w/ sportlines they'd be 2 inchs right? thats scary low to daylie drive. how woud i run duals w/ my set up? i was thinking oval pipe fo rclearance, and going around the x-member, but more linearly than what i have now, the guy b4 me kinda did a hack job on the y pipe....
