hey guys a friend of mines dad has a 75' camaro with a 355 in it and he just bought new headers and i was wondering if clearence under the hood would be an issue if i were to put the old ones on a 85' 350

Odds are they won't clear the 3rd gen chassis. I've heard reports of one brand/type of 1st/2nd gen headers fitting, but I don't even remember the brand/type.
Without a doubt your best bet for success is to get 3rd gen specific headers.

3rd gens have a certain type of header that allow them to clear the crossmember
