Hooker 2055 Questions

Hey
Sorry if this has been asked already, but i searched and didnt come up with anything. What modifications, if any, are required to the header or car to install 2055's? I had to dent my last set of headers to clear the K member, and I wasnt really happy with that.
Thanks
-John

Re: Hooker 2055 Questions

The 2055s are a direct fit,all your emissions stuff will bolt up to the headers and they will clear the k member.

Re: Hooker 2055 Questions

IIRC, correctly the AC compressor is on the pass side by 88. If not, you'll have to cut a leg of the AC bracket or dent the header tube.

Re: Hooker 2055 Questions

Would I notice any difference between the Edelbrock Headers and Hooker 2055s?? I'm looking to put headers on my car soon and it's already set up for the 5.0/5.7 HO headers/y-pipe because I put a 3" catback on it and the 3" slip-fit catalytic converter on it last summer.

The reason I ask if I would notice a difference is because I have a 305TPI with the tiny manifolds/y-pipe and I dont really plan on modding my engine after I put the headers on. I also ask because if I won't really notice a difference, there is about a $200 price difference between ceramic coated Edelbrocks and Jet Hot coated 2055s...

Re: Hooker 2055 Questions

I don't think there would be a difference you would notice... but every little bit helps... check out the sticky about headers & y pipe, the 2055 is rated as one of the best & most popular & I think has the nicest y pipe of all systems for our car... is that a 5 or 10 hp difference between edelbrock & hooker??? Not sure... but add a few more hp with an air foil, coolant by pass, nicer plugs & ignition box, it all adds up...

I got the jet hot 2055's and am happy with them... I got them for a great deal though, probably the $200 difference.

Re: Hooker 2055 Questions

Thanks for your input...If you don't mind me asking, how much did you pay for your JetHot Hookers? When did you buy them? and how much was shipping?

Re: Hooker 2055 Questions

If you don't have headers yet, and don't mind buying a good set the 2055's are great, they have smaller primaries than the SLP's, but a much better y-pipe design. The SLP's are opposite, better primaries, but not as good of a y-pipe.

However, if you already had a set of headers just go with what you have unless they are in need of major work, or reworking to fit.

Ultimately nothing is going to give you as much gain as a set of long tubes, but you will sacrifice ground clearance and most need a y-pipe made to fit which is another expense. The SLP or Hooker 2055's are a good compromise compared to a full length header.

Re: Hooker 2055 Questions

It was over 3 years ago, and I paid around $500... I think they were taking up space at Jet Hot and they had a great deal on them

After putting in poly engine mount inserts, I had to trim the passenger side a-arm mount area (doesn't weaken the structure). Also, my Spohn subframe connectors now had to be trimmed/boxed to clear the y-pipe where it swings around to the cat.

Humm, no such problem with my poly mounts or Global West SFC's.
