Hey guys. i have a 88 5.0 and when i took my car into the shop so they could weld up my hooker aero chamber muffler they pointed something out. IT was the dumbest thing ive seen. They had put reducers from my y pipe put in a smaller diameter pipe to the cat then another small pipe with reducer to the rest of my ex..... i dont know the exact size of my exhaust but im sure its bigger than 2 inches. and those pipes were significantly smaller on the cat.

What would this do to my car as far as preformance?
What would it do to my Mileage?
and is this the reason why i feel like im towing something when everything on the car is working great????

I think they did this setup when i took it in to get a new cat when i first got the car. one of those discount deals. I can weld now so ill be doing it my self. any recomendations as far as cats go??? also no thanks im not gonna put a straight pipe in. im in ca and there doing some crazy smog stuff down here. i just want to get this car rolling right......Thanks in advance

 

smaller pipe chokes the engine. lowers performance and mileage. need to use equal size as much as possible or you will regret it.

 

Some cheap@ss muffler shop ripped you or a previous owner off by using a cheap small cat with reducers on an engine that should be getting something bigger. You should notice a difference when you get rid of that.
