Re: Exhaust ideas open to anything

I've had 3 different systems on my car. When I bought it, it had a Dynomax muffler on it. It was quiet, couldn't even tell it was a V8. So I replaced it with a 2 1/2" Flowmaster catback. It was ok, better than the Dynomax. I recently replaced the Flowmaster with a 3" Borla catback. I absolutely love the sound, nice deep mellow tone, aggressive sounding but not to loud for a daily driver. And at idle, it sounds so good. Everybody loves the sound of my car with it compared to the Flowmaster!!!

My Hooker cat-back sounds pretty damn good... it's louder than stock, but not enough for the cops to bother looking up from their paper... even with headers. It flows well and it sounds nice and mellow at idle and pretty mean at full throttle, in a quietly mischievous way.

I think you'll find that once you throw some headers on, that Borla will be quite loud... don't get me wrong, every Borla I've heard paired with headers has sounded damn good, they're just a bit too loud for my tastes.

+1 on the hooker cat back, on my 355 i have hooker 2460 headers matching catless y-pipe and 3" mandrel bent dynomax intermediate pipe, hooker aerochamber (the one that comes with the catback) and dual 3.5" resonated tips let me tell you, it's perfect at idle and cruising around town, and it's down right viscious at Wide open throttle, plus it's one of the best flowing mufflers on the market.

how much would you say it would run w/ headers and w/o headers the catback?

I bought all my stuff at Summit. The cat-back cost me $315, the universal cat was $60 and my headers were dirt cheap... I had a pair of summit headers laying around that I bought a while ago for $80 and I figured for the time being that I might as well use them and bought a flow-tech y-pipe for $120 and a 3" to 2.5" reducer to mate it to the 3" cat and cat-back.

Personally, if I had the money at the time I would have gone with a hooker 2055 headers and 3" y-pipe combo... which runs about $450-$500 last time I checked.
