What headers should I use?

Hi. I have an 89 camaro RS and I'm wanting to put headers on my 5.7 TBI. The headers i bought are dynomax blackjack black painted headers. The only thing is that they say they work on camaros up till 1981. will they fit or should I look at shorties? Also These headers come with a factory made dent in one of the exhaust tubes for spark plug clearance. I'm also thinking about hooker headers. I wanna spend less than 300 bucks so any help would be great

Hooker 2460HKR shorties, $160. Y-pipe, $240. Oops, budget busted. Not a very good y-pipe, either. Eliminates A.I.R., cat. Probably okay for a stock LO3, though. But not emissions-legal.

Hedman 68470 shorties, $150. Y-pipe, $100. Eliminates A.I.R. Meets budget, but not a very good y-pipe. Probably okay for a stock LO3, though. But not emissions-legal.

Re: What headers should I use?

I am removing the A.I.R. because they only use the tail sniffer where I live for inspection and visual inspection of cat. They don't go under the hood.

I've been reading of people using longtube headers on their camaros in the other exhaust sections so I know it's possible.

Re: What headers should I use?

The full lengths are not a good choice if you do not want to do any real work, i have used the hooker super comps and the headmans, full lengths, the headmans require some modification ot the drive side a arm mount, the hookers require both sides. Headman shortys and Y pipe are great.

Re: What headers should I use?

i didnt mention long tubes cuz I know it would exceed your budget. unless you fab your own Y pipe.

Don't want to go with the Hooker set-up, then, unless you are willing to modify the y-pipe to keep the cat.
