Put the car on jack stands, start it up, plug up the tailpipes (rags), and use your hands to feel all along the exhaust (don't burn yourself) for the leaking air or you can usually hear it.

How do you find a leak in a tire? Submerge it in water!
I would guess that you would get the same results with an exhaust leak... maybe try the local boat launch?
