How find exhaust leak??

My '89 RS 350 has an exhaust
leak. I can hear it easily under heavy
acceleration, but can't find it at idle.
Any ideas to help find it?
Thanks!
Chuck

Re: How find exhaust leak??

Put the car on jack stands, start it up, plug up the tailpipes (rags), and use your hands to feel all along the exhaust (don't burn yourself) for the leaking air or you can usually hear it.

stick your head under there and listen
----------
it helps if you put a long tube up to your ear like a vaccuum extension that helps you pin point it

How do you find a leak in a tire? Submerge it in water!

I would guess that you would get the same results with an exhaust leak... maybe try the local boat launch?

just kidding. But really the other 2 suggestions are good.
