New vid: My 383 HSR with Ultraflo Round

Some of you might have caught my startup vid with half completed exhaust and the dynatech split flow muffler. Abit loud for my taste but did sound good
http://media.putfile.com/383-Stealth-Ram-Startup

I've since completed the exhaust to look identical to my old setup last year. 3inch y pipe to single 4 inch to muffler to 3inch dual tail pipes with 3.5" tips

Idle is tuned more and lower this time at around 900 but does dip alittle between 875 and 950 ish rpm. But its getting better. Much better than the erratic 1000-1100 rpm idle

NEW Dynomax ultraflo round muffler Idle/5000 rpm rev clip added
http://media.putfile.com/383-HSR-Ultraflo-muffler-idle

A good bit quieter than the split flow dumped but still loud. Has good tone tho

Sounds good. Also it looks like you are getting your idle dialed in. Very good, I think you have a winner in the making. I can't wait for the dyno results and the track times.

We had our 3rd gen club picnic today and of course I took my car. I just could not help but notice how nice the idle was and the manners of the car in general. So I have decided to keep my present cam and go with 1.65 aluminum rocker arms and a rev kit from AFR on my next build. It does show well on the computer simulation programs.

Re: New vid: My 383 HSR with Ultraflo Round

that bigger motor will tame that cam down alittle but not too much i guess. Should still be a great combo

As for my setup...specs are awesome on paper but i'm still not convinced by the butt-meter. I've only been doing wot runs to 5000-5500 rpms and this car should want to go to 6500 or more, i'm not sure. but at those speeds it doesnt feel that quick..just alittle better than my L98 it seems but its hard to tell. That concerns me cuz it should be much quicker than that

Today tho, i took it out and got on it in first gear, holding it manually to ensure i hit 6000+rpms. I was spinning mostly in first tho, and shifted second and brought that to a good 6600 or so and it felt pretty good. Seemed like it was liking it but i dont know where the power band is. Motor didnt mind the revs tho. I just looked down and saw 85-90mph or so and was like...ok

i think the stock airbox/intake setup will hurt this motor... i need a bigger MAF with larger CAI tubing or go SD with a nice air intake tube

Yeah I'm redoing mine one more time. You probably need to do the same thing. I think you need to get the car on the dyno and do a dyno tune and of course data log. More than likely you are leaving some power on the table.

Re: New vid: My 383 HSR with Ultraflo Round

Same question as with the exhaust termination boxes... how much power is left on the table with a CAI? haha i hope i find out one way or another. i hope to start working on ideas for a CAI and battery relocation i think. That the only way to do it on these cars i guess

Re: New vid: My 383 HSR with Ultraflo Round

depending on how this setup currently works, i was looking at those MAF's and Doc's custom conversion he did with 3.5" pipe.

Also later on if i dont like this HSR on this motor and i think its holding me back, or if i go to larger heads/cam for more race oriented setups, i was considering converting to single plane with elbow for LSx throttlebody and using a aftermarket fuel management setup. I dont think the stock ECM would be much good after the changes i had in mind if this setup doestn work out like planned

If you go single plane w/LSX TB, I agree, definitely consider another EMS entirely....;

Re: New vid: My 383 HSR with Ultraflo Round

ORR - I have found that the short runner intakes respond well to aggressive ignition timing. My motor is an 11-1 406 with MR and I run 37 degrees total. With the cam and intake you're running the motor should pull to 6500 with no problem.

Also, the cars pulls very hard when I lock the converter at 5000 in second gear.

Re: New vid: My 383 HSR with Ultraflo Round

I'll have to try that. I think my wot max advance is 36 now and i have no knock or retard anywhere. I was gonna back down to 34 and dyno it like that and work my way up to see what happens

I figured with AFR aluminum heads, they would be pretty efficient and wouldnt want alot of timing but so far its handling it very well. My air fuel is kinda rich at 12.0 to 1 so far. I didnt look at the gauge when i was over 6000 rpms but from 4500-5500 or so its 12.0. So i may lean it out a tad before goin to the dyno but 12.0 to 1 isnt a bad place to start

Its calling for scattered T storms today so i may not get a chance to drive it. I gotta watch the radar maps
