All aboard the Orr89RocZ bandwagon!
I know he doesn't have his old exhaust setup anymore, but he inspired me-lol

Yes, I polished my cat back (what a loser, hehe). Yes, I realize the muffler is crooked, I need to make a custom hanger on the driver side. Once I'm done, I'll try and get some good sound clips.

That looks like one of those chambered mufflers I have been hearing about.
What are those dimples in the muffler? Looks like they might decrease the inside diameter of the pipe.

Those dimples are the chambers. The flow tube(louvered baffle) is not effected. Best of all there is no packing to blow out of it either.

Re: All aboard the Orr89RocZ bandwagon!
I haven't been able to drive it yet, but I was actually able to slip the muffler on with the car running. It cleans up the sound. Loud, but a good loud with a tone. It doesn't sound like a pickup with no muffler thank god.
I drove around with an open Y pipe for 3 weeks, I liked it, but it was missing a "tone". It was just plain loud.

haha glad to see you going with taht setup. you should like it. I liked mine, but it was in the I pipe so i could retain dual outlets
Last person i recommended that muffler to also liked it. Most cars that have those tubes sound pretty good

I got a quick little sound clip: http://joenowicki.googlepages.com/MOV03751.mpg
I was thinking about dual outs, but I can get that muffler to tuck nice and high. No one will be able to see it. My 80 series had stock turns downs on it, couldn't see them anyway.

Re: All aboard the Orr89RocZ bandwagon!
i pipe you lose alittle clearance but its much better than my current 4inch design
it hits on most things
i'd do a chambered tube again if they had a 4inch inlet model.
Yours sounds pretty good so far, i bet it sounds better if you stand behind it the camera will pick up the sound better

"I'd like to look up some flow data."
I'm with you on the flow data. I did not see any on their web site.

Re: All aboard the Orr89RocZ bandwagon!
i cant find any data for most mufflers anyway. Its like they rate them on sound and not flow. its like they think exhaust isnt important. I dont see intake manifold flow numbers that often either! two big factors in motor building and they dont give you that information

Yeah the only mfg i've seen put up REAL flow numbers is PYPES. Even then its not on all sizes or all muffs.

Re: All aboard the Orr89RocZ bandwagon!
Dynomax does and Magnaflow does on some products. If you have a straight through pipe with preferations such as on the DynoMax or Magnaflow you can probably figure what it is going to flow by the pipe diameter. On the above chambered muffler it looks like it has dimples that stickout out into the exhaust flow. That was the reason for the question.

Re: All aboard the Orr89RocZ bandwagon!
oh it does, and it will distrupt airflow but that is what gives it the distinct chambered tube sound. Sorta like the old Z/28 cars back in 69. I do believe they had the same mufflers
They will flow a good bit but how much i dont know. Less than a straight peice of pipe i'm sure but better than most flowmasters i'm sure

Small update. Found a universal hanger at autozone. Grinded some of it off, heated it, bent it, tapped a hole, and welded it to the tail pipe. Now the muffler sits nice and straight.

Re: All aboard the Orr89RocZ bandwagon!
Sorry, my sister took her camera with her on vacation. No sounds clips until she comes back. But driving it around, it's not obnoxious at all. No louder than the flowmaster (80 series). At least from what I hear inside the car.
Take it over 3000 RPM, and it gets a real nice throaty tone. Couldn't be happier. Over 3k it is louder than the flowmaster by quite a bit.

This a fairly decent listing.
Still looking for sound bites though.

Have that muffler in the I pipe section, 26/20 3", it sounds very mean, and well, yea getting on the throttle a bit really wakes it up. After letting off there is no crackling sound, just a great pure exhaust tone.
