Getting Headers and looking for input...

Ok.. So I am looking to throw some headers in without spending that much cash.. I was looking at the Hedman 68470 Headers and the Hedman 17470 Y Pipe.. The car is a 1987 Camaro Iroc w/ a 350 motor. The guy already has a performance exhaust on it so Iwas thinking of just doing the headers with the y pipe and then taking out the cat converter and just doing straigh piping... I was quoted just for the headers w/ y pipe would be about 600 installed.. I think they said install was 180 each side. Does this sound like a good price or is this overpriced? Also is there a way to tell if the headers already on the vehicle are factory or aftermarket?

The OE is a log. Headers will have individual "pipes" at each cylinder.

Re: Getting Headers and looking for input...

I've used those. You get 1 5/8" primaries, fine, into a 3" collector, too big, into 2" pipes that dump into a little 2 1/2" pipe. Too small. Spark plug access was horrible. Yes, this is a cheap setup, but I advise spending a bit more for something better. The Edelbrocks are okay, I like Hooker's 2055 setup or the nearly identical offering from MAC Performance.

Contact Dyno Don on the SoCal Board. He's the only one that has 1 3/4 shorty headers that a perfect fit single cat and dual cat for our cars. No one else around makes them.
