Hey guys, new to the forum. I just bought a '91 RS with the lo3 305. Unfortually, the stock exhaust on it is rusted beyond repair and needs to be replaced. I'm not building this car up at all. It's going to be a crusier and nothing more. In other words, what is the best system for this engine? I was told by a mechanic friend to stay away from Flowmasters and get a nice Magnaflow or Dynamax instead. For just strait crusing what would you guys suggest?

 

Buy a system that is mandrel bent and take it to a shop to install (if you don't weld)... Most muffler shops do crush bends, the mandrel is smooth flowing... I got a flowmaster from Summit for about $230, with a 1 in 1 out muffler, it kinda hides the pipe, which flows better than the standard 1 in 2 out system most people have, but I really didn't want to see 2 pipes sticking out the back of my car...

if your going to keep it entirely stock i would get a pair of shorty headers and just get like a dynomax full exhaust kit you dont need anything crazy a 2.5 or 3" will be plenty they sell full kits it doesnt matter really at that level a 305 doesnt produce enough power even for a flowmaster to cut back performance just get what you think sounds best search for sound clips and whatnot no need to get anything expensive...if you plan on keeping the car either get stainless or go get them ceramic coated to prolong the life so you dont need to replace it and you dont worry ever about rust
