Kooks Headers?
Anyone use Kooks LT1 headers in their thirdgen? I am wondering how low these hang compared to the hooker long tubes?
Let me know if anyone has any info, Thanks.

Are you talking about LT1 4th gen headers? I don't believe they'll fit. 3rd gen headers should work fine on an LT1 in a 3rd gen, with the exception of the lack of one O2 sensor bung.

Re: Kooks Headers?
This is for a LT1 swap into my 92z so I if the 4th gen headers wouldnt fit (why not?) then I guess the port sizes on these headers would be large enough to fit over the D-ports on the LT1, right?
Bigger concern is how low would these hang because most say the hooker long tubes hang too low and I am lowering the car

Re: Kooks Headers?
Probably cause they are made to fit into a 4th gen body. Your going to have to be careful what LT header you pic if you plan on lowering your car, most I have seen hang pretty low. You might be better off with a set of shorties from dyno don or something.

Re: Kooks Headers?
Well, thanks I know its for a 4th gen... lol but I mean how does it not fit? What does it hit? Is it minor enough to modify something... just curious.
Either way, what are the best/highest flowing shorty headers to use for the LT1 in a 3rd gen?

The chassis changed between 3rd and 4th gen. The LT's will hit the 3rd gen frame, and no, it's not an easy, quick, or inexpensive fix.
Sounds like it's time to talk to Dyno Don.

Sounds good, thanks five7kid. Any links to dyno don website or contact info? I will google now.

Re: Kooks Headers?
Any 3rdgen header with 1-3/4" tubes should cover the LT1 D-ports just fine. 1-5/8" might be dicey though.

Re: Kooks Headers?
I sent a PM to Dyno Don... anyone know what the absolute BEST flowing 1-3/4" shorty headers there are? Cost does not matter, but I do not want to get custom made ones, so BEST aftermarket bolt in?
Thanks everyone

Re: Kooks Headers?
^what he said, the only other 1 3/4 shorties are from SLP, they dont fit very well, and havea crappy y-pipe, which doesnt fit well either. Believe me i know, i have them.
If i did it over again, and knew of dynodons headers, i would have bought them. What im probably going to do now is cut up my SLP's, expand the collectors to 3", build a custom y, probably have to mod my k-member and hook it to the 4" single exhaust im building.
Winter project!

Re: Kooks Headers?
Not only are the Dyno Don headers the best flowing by a pretty good margin, he also re-designed them to clear the later plug locations (trust me, the Hookers DO NOT clear vortec and later sparkplugs!!) and to top it off, Dyno Dons' headers are already LT1 style D ports. His collectors are larger/better, the "y" is much improved, and hes' a member of this community. I just wish he looked better in a bikini...
I think your decision is pretty obvious, but he hand makes them in small batches like grandmas' cookies, so they take a while, but they're very tasty!
