Re: Header wrap....

I run unwrapped, uncoated Hooker 2055's with no problems. I have made an attempt to keep the wiring, to include plug wires, safely tucked away. If your wiring looks like spilled spaghetti under the hood, then who knows what the results might be.

Check my Car Details below for a pic or two of the engine bay.

Re: Header wrap....

I will say this....NEVER ever wrap headers, all makers will void your warranty if you do.

It holds in the heat and destroys the metal.

Re: Header wrap....

Not only will the excess heat destroy them, but when they get wet, it will also hold moisture (like when the car sits without being driven for a while)

I'd recommend getting them coated by Jet Hot, or for the time being you should consider getting some DEI spark plug heat boots. I ran uncoated SLP headers for about 2 years. While the heat boots protected the wires from melting, I did have multiple starters die from heat soak, had wire loom melt in some spots, and at one point I had a few dried leaves around my windshield wiper arms (car was a daily driver then) and popped the hood with the motor warm--One leaf fell directly down to the middle of the header collectors and started smoldering and then became an actual flame. Only thing I could do was blow it out. I got lucky and nothing got burnt. I don't want to think about what would have happened, had it not gone out as quick as it did.
