Changing muffler on stock exhaust?

I have a 82 TA with a 305, it has manifolds - Y pipe - Into a cat - that runs into a stock muffler dual outlet with tips.

I was wondering If I maybe changed the muffler to say a flowmaster with diffrent tips will it be a little louder ? right now its to quiet. I was thinking maybe even doing a cat delete?

What size does the muffler need to be such as inlet outlet, and where can I get some nice tips?

Thanks guys
- Josh

Which 305, the carb'd LG4, or Cross Fire?

Stock your car should have had dual mufflers. If it is a single muffler now, no telling what has been done.

Best bet is for you to crawl under and measure yourself. Or, just get a cat back system.

My car has one muffler stock. I have a flowmaster on it, and some tips, and it's pretty loud. Louder than most cars. ..............bout to put some slp headers on

Michael, your car is a '91, right? I'm talking about '82-'83 models.

Ok, I was not sure if he had the same exhaust set up or not. Also mine has a 350, so the sound may be different. But the flowmaster is pretty good. Did those 82-83's have dual exhaust?

No more than yours does. '82-'83 was a really weird system, and really didn't work well. A single 3" aftermarket system is highly superior.

Actually, you didn't say it was factory Cross Fire. I was wondering how it had a TH700, but that explains it.

You're going to have to get under there and look/measure. No telling what's been put in there, or if it's stock.

Re: Changing muffler on stock exhaust?

I think your going to have trouble removing the stock mufflers. Might want to take it to a shop unless you have tools of your own. I needed to take out the old grinder and go to work.

I don't think so. The inlet of a single muffler will be in a different place than that dual muffler set-up.
