First time doing headers

I want to do headers and never have done them before. Are they hard to do? What about the o2 sensor and all the stuff on the exhaust manifold? I might wanna straight pipe it or make it go out the sides.

I was looking at these http://www.amazon.com/Hooker-6901HKR...8453386&sr=8-9

Ford headers???

The simplest, least expensive, and only legal option is emissions-legal headers such as Hooker 2055HKR's. O2 sensor ready, bolt-on (except cutting a leg off of the AC bracket that bolts to the exhaust manifold), great y-pipe. Hardest part is removing the old exhaust, and lifting the engine off of the engine mounts to get them in (although I can remove mine without lifting the engine).

Straight pipes and side exits are - well, can't use the words here that describe what they are. Long tubes destroy ground clearance.

Re: First time doing headers

I don't need to worry about emissions but what am I suppose to do with the o2 sensor if theres no place for them? I also wouldn't mind doing dual exhaust and dumping before the rear. I just wanna be able to slip em on a quick job as my first time. I have no catalytic converter it's just a steel pipe. What can I use to make headers not rust?

As is oft stated on this Board, if you get non-emissions-legal headers that don't have an O2 sensor provision, weld a bung onto the collector and drill out the hole, install O2 sensor.

To keep them from rusting, you can strip off the low-temp "shipping paint" that comes on them and paint them with high-temp paint, properly cured, or have them ceramic coated.

Re: First time doing headers

i'd go with the hooker 2055. good bang for the buck and you can always have them powdercoated. You also won't have to worry about where to put you o2. as far as install, pain in the a**. although if i remeber correctly i don't believe i had to jack my engine up. As far as strait pipes with no cat, expect it to be really loud. i don't have a cat and i'm using flowmaster and its still pretty loud, oh and before you install them ya might wanna make sure you got a set of angled spark plug wires

Then watch the powder coating burn off.

High temp paint or ceramic coating. You can also chrome them, but the ceramic does things no other coating can, and everything the others do.

Re: First time doing headers

My header install four years ago was clean and everything was routed well but headers are hot and now I am fixing a few things. Here is a few of the parts I ordered last night from Summit. I have had to replace my knock sensor connector and wire as they melted so I'll be wrapping everything in Tape Cool. I am replacing with the same set of Taylors yet they didnt hold up to the heat so I'll be wrapping them with the Boot Protectors this time. Header Bolts loosen up all the time so switching to split lock fasteners.
Word of Advice - spend the extra time and money with these or similar parts as it will save you time and money in the future. And remember zip ties are your best friends. Best of Luck - headers sound great and are worth the time and effort to install.
DEI-010408 TAPE COOL 1 3/8X15 ALUM ADHES $13.95
PHP-21003 SPLIT-LOCK FASTENERS $69.95
TAY-2562 BOOT PROTECTOR $54.95
TAY-74206 WIRE SET SPIRAL PRO CHEV SB $47.99
