Fan switch clearance issue with headers?
I have a 91 Z28 with SLP 1 5/8" headers. Problem that I'm having is the fan switch sticks out near the header tube. Then when I put the connector on, it's only about a 1/4" from hitting the header. I've already melted one connector, and have installed a new one. Any ideas on what to do to prevent melting this one? I seen Summit sells some heat tape for wires and stuff, but besides that what else could I do? Thanks.

What I would suggest, is getting a fan switch from Painless (there are various on/off temps) and replacing yours. The ones from painless use a flat spade connector, which will not have clearance problems with your headers. I did this with mine, though I just wanted the cooler on/off temps.

is the sensor from painless shorter? How much clearance do you think i would get from swapping? where's best place to buy? Thanks.

Re: Fan switch clearance issue with headers?
The sensor itself is a bit shorter, but the connector style is different, which is why it works better. It uses just a small flat spade connector instead of the big bulky plastic GM connector you have now. The clearance is much better. My GM connector fit close with my Hedman headers, but with the painless switch and the spade connector, clearance is not an issue anymore.
I got mine at Summit racing, though any local speed shop that can get Painless stuff can get the sensor. The one I got turns on at 200/off at 180... its actually more like 210/195 though. Better than the GM one that turns on at 235 and off at 220 though... Painless sells various switches (different temp ranges) and are probably all listed at their site. Might be worth a look.

Thanks. I'm gonna give that a try. What temp thermostat are you using with that switch, 180 deg.? I see the painless one in summit, #30102 200 on/180 off, and I see a thermostat listed too, #30110. The connector comes with the switch, right? Or does it come as a kit with the relay and all that?
